how do I even know if anyone even sees these pages? I suppose that's why I stopped updating them

And did he ever even get to that part about 'helmet safety' and that the guy in the photo wasn't wearing one?

Oh, no, yet another topic for the echo factory to pretend that people care about and repeat over and over.

 this is a lot more
             fun
         than wading
         in through the chan spam.

if you don't have proper fonts installed you won't see what this picture shows: the output of the echo command with unicode symbols as input. If you are blind basically the unicode are symbols that you could feel as shapes. If you have a 'font box', which would be like that divice with all the pins in it that you can place your hand inside, and the shape of your hand will appear on the surface. If such a thing locked, it would then let a blind person feel it and they would feel the shape. such a device that does that for font shapes would greatly aid the blind. It would be a 'kind of' high resolution new-braille. Call it a 'sean-box' font reader.

The Message Column

Service Causulties

This is real news, about service people doing the bidding of our country and . . . it's sad news.

We are in the middle of a difficult situation where . . . is about to happen and . . . we don't have liberty to say if we did know, which I do not. And thus, if you have to deal with a wartime stance, and you want to pretend that it isn't, you have protestors and lawyers being forward. As it should be. We can't let people rot in airports, or be detained when they are not criminals. If someone can vouch for them, then it all ought to be OK. However, all this protesting about the blackout period before the new vetting rules seems like a lot of wasted effort and political grandstanding by people who should realize that, really, despite what you want to believe, this is wartime in most of the world. It's the world war that the power-propaganda pretends isn't happening. Why can't anyone just come from Yemen whenever they want to? Because there is a war and it doesn't make sense to leave the situation the way it was when we had an administration that was aiding and abetting just their friends, and not trying to solve the problems becuase they hadn't colored in enough 'Springs' yet with their false cause political collectivism that they name after one of the worlds's great religous populations, an act of false association.

If you have the ware-withall to buy an international ticket from Cairo, a place that is not in the war zone, then you probably aren't in that difficult a situation. Cairo is nice, Eygptians are hospitable and cosmopolitan and pretty much invented the idea of 'come one, come all'. We have a nile river here, of sorts, called "The Hudson". It's a very very welcoming place. And we applaud that. We aren't shutting our doors forever. It's a transitional part of our governmental cycle. And we need to rework the methodologies of vetting our friends. In the meantime, if you want to be our guests, then you'd be patient and go along with the situation because we don't know what the big plans are.

A real general doesn't release the big plans to the world so that the spooky-guys of the world have a significant advantage. There are those who fancy theymselves as some kinds of kings of the realm, with too much power and influence they fund the agitators, feeding them BS, and trying to make it all seem like some kind of rock-fest at the federal-hall. Listen, we have a lot better ways to get out ideas now aadays, which is what protesting is supposed to do. Anything more than that and it's a rock-fest? A festival? A carnival?

If it's a carnival, or a festival, then we ought to expect fesival rules. That means that we don't block and accost people. Please don't block the sidewalks. Do not block the highways. And, as well, please don't, do not, chant along with the megaphone guy. Have something real to say. If you have 30 seconds of airtime you don't want to give the same message 7 times.

Have a real message, and don't be impolite to strangers

Have something real to say and people will listen. If you have good ideas they will follow along with your logic. And if you make some mistakes in your presentation, they might point them out, and coach you on how to be more precise, so you don't make it sound like you don't know what you are talking about, when you really do.

Chill for a while.

America is like a block party that got out of control. Suddenly everyone in the town wants to crash it. So the MC says. 'The service guys (gals and others) at the Fire Inspectors office (Fire Marshall Bill?) says that this party has gotten a little bit out of control. We need to stop letting people in for a while, till things cool down a bit.

If you have a reason to be there, then you might have a way in if it's allowed. But safety first.

The Big Plans

We don't know what the big plans are.

You don't second guess the master physician in the middle of surgery. The Trump team is working things, and they have some necessary things that have to happen.

H1B changes?

H1B poaches the best people from other countries, to the detriment of those here, for the purposes of cut-rate engineering. It is a boon to the re-billers of the cost-plus industries.

Unite against the tyranny of

 These duds, these clunkers.
 They drop from the shelf
and give out a carefree vibe as they shatter.

If I pretend to be an illegal foreigner can
I came and stay too?
If I do stay
in Scully Square
at Marty's Hostel,
will he put a mint
on my pillow?
Can I have take-out
sent to my room?

   In essence of form?
a Buddha statue of that man, doesn't suit him.
They dress him in their own hard stone
and try to steal his brilliance from the world
and to bully in a world of their own hegemony,
the divided country behind them as a cleaved stone mountain,
a crass attempt to destroy the symbols of the great man's oration.
A Buddha statue of that man, doesn't suit him.
He is dress in their indignation
from their lack of understanding
of what he really meant
when he meant what he said.

And he did mean it.

You have to undress him then,
and see him as naked and afraid
and understand that he was actually a man.
not a chess piece monolith.

So if you make chess-piece monoliths,
and put them in a park,
chess pieces are made to be moved.
Parks can be used to model the backdrop
of videogame levels . . .
where the stones and statues
can often be rolled or moved somehow
to perhaps solve a puzzle.

So roll that stone backwards
and fill in the gap
and make that monolith less loathsome.

In essence of form? what does that mean anyway?

literary flourish of words blurting in an early morning blog.

Political and Media Inanity

Kafka wrote comedy. Orwell was a pessimist. Depends who you ask.

Imagine if they both could have lived and made it to Los Angeles, post war, and been collaborators on writing romantic screwball comedies for Hollywood. If we search IMDB for movies written by Kafka, or by Orwell, will we find one? I kind of doubt it.

by Truck-u-later

Truck-u-later

in this column Truck-u-later steps in deeper . . .

The story is that the 'ban' was something thought up by the last administration, and the current one is using it. It makes sense to have a small period while the new vetting methods perfect.

Trump-zilla

The kaiju (strange creature) who the protestors imagine

Necessary measures proceed. Some people, without thought, knee-jerk protest against Trump's every breath. They make him into Trumpzilla, he's the strange creature who always fights for the right and the just. But . . .they see him as a villain, which he is not.

Jan 29, 2017

tell us how you really feel . . .

. . . well . . . Truck-you-later!

from The Japanese
kaiju : strange creature
kaijin : strange creatures

Both Mothra and Godzilla were kaijin.

Give us back our egg.

The demcracy twins say:
"give us back our democracy."

the usurpers say:
"how dare you usurp our usurpation!"

some one shouts:
"Liberty does not wear a veil"

The giant statue starts lumbering, like
a huge Olmec Head chess piece,
or giant Gallapagous sculpture,
animated,
across the scene.

Maybe you should not drink
the protest kwel-aide

"but it tastes so good!" they cry.

Gathering together is holy effort.
A protest? It is always part that,
but the other part?
Do you have a point and something to say?
If not then shutt it up till you do.

And old proverb (I believe it's listed as being Chinese,
Those who say do not know. Those who know do not say.

I say I don't know,
but I do know what I don't say.
And I try to say what I might know,
but as a form of entertainment,
and a way for me to channel out my urges.
In that sense a blog, a speculative
writing project, like this one,
is a conjecture factory of snark and
possiblity hopefully
to open up the gates that
block the water from getting to
the thirsty minds,
starving for acceptance and
affection
within the scrum.
And the protestor megaphone guy
has them all chantting nonsense.
But at least it's warm
all huddled together in the rain
even if they don't know what the cause is.
Its a free bus ride.
It's a meal.
It's some pretty colored drink.
Drink up.

Hell no, we don't know
we are here and we won't go.

Jingo sings the jingo dove
the road to hell is paved with love

Megaphone jones
and his false cause indignation
makes them all feel so loved.

There is nothing heroic
in chanting along
with an idiot.

the false cause chorus
is so much fun
I'm in love
with every one
and I don't care what they say
I go along for the ride
anyway.
If it's free
it's me
I'm who I am
not who I be.

The flip side of all this?

There are times when real protest is necessary, when someone finally points out "the emperor has no clothes." Donald Trump became the spokesman for very many people who were tired of the shameless nature of the naked emperors of this world destroying the social order and creating refugee situations, and poaching all the smart people, and driving nations into insolvency, and false cause mongering, and pitting Muslims against Jews against Christians, when most of them agree about most things: we want peace.

We do not want war. We want friendship. We do not want shotgun marriage of all nations under the banner of false-cause aristocratically minded posers of the old-order who conform to the stuff they were fed in the cradle, a supremicism of position and station without regard for the other nations of hte world.

No Special Case People

The point of this part of my rant today: Special citizen diplomat class needs to not exist. No special citizens.

People should not cut in line!

No cut-sies in the line. Wait your turn if you want to come to America.

If you are a true believing liberal protestor, then may God Bless you and sustain you and give you wisdom. With wisdom you might not like what you discover about some of the people who enable your protests. Some might have dark-hearted ulterior political motives that are illconcerned with your actual well-being. You will be the strongest to oppose them when you get older and start to understand all of their cartel bullssshhtt. And if it's someone you know and love, who got close to you, and you find some way that you loath in their manner of demanding this urge-for-cause, push push push, put it's fake and just about politics, you'd tell them how they seem to be. They'd listen, because you choose wisely who to trust and with whom to confide the secrets of your heart? If not, then wisdom can help you there, too. A gift from . . . you know.

When you imagine a dark scene, dark motives, and hurt from operators of some unknown cartel that gets this heedless mean, and , with some kind of twisted buzz out of hurting others, and pitting us all against each other. It might seem real, like the world has gone sour. No offense to Wiccan, it used to be called 'Season of the Witch'. The best way to deal with that dark-cloud movement of your perception of all around you is to ask, "Maybe I have all of it and everything wrong, about this, and they. The motivations of people can just as easily be explained as from greed or avarice. Lust for life, covetousness, it's all very common, we all have it at times, and it's often hard, once the squirril is living in your roof to tell the squarill, "you can't live here anymore." (addiction or blind acceptence of false decourrum is like that.)

In this world some people do take advantage of other people. Some people have great wealth, and they get bored with the limits of the world so they conjour up 'causes' and they have to go and fuss around about it, hoping, perhpas, some day, a chess-piece monolith of their vissage. We can have chess-piece monoliths of all of the great phonys of the past generations. But I'm not honnoring any despots and villains of History by glorifying them with animation. So the chess piece monoliths will only be the pepole who were cool, and awesome, and worthy, and not out for blood. Like angry fools, chasing every neigh that gets presented. They are easy to control if you know their triggers. It's the one who knows the triggers and has them go off for the purposes of . . . unjust and unholy selfish-hads. I know, some say, it's not cool to use foriegn words for what they mean because it might be blah blah blah blah. But the fact is that a creative mind runs on with sounds and ideas and doens't have a dike in the way of the flow without understanding that the dike is there. A false-association would be to say that if anything is about Arabs and Arabia, that, as well, it is about Islam and Muslims. Of course, because we all have studied History, Islam is only one thing that comes from Arabia, and only one of the very very very very many long history of tribes, clans, and moieties of great renoun, and importance, with a warm Christian vibe, at times (yes, it's true). And a lot of Jews at times, too. Cool people all around. Family people. We can think of it all as an awesome assention of civilization and Islam is, yes, very important. And we can never expect that anyone should not learn the wisdom that can be learned from books of other nations, peoples. One book. Many books. The book of life. The book of nonsense. The book of nonsense is me trying to explain all of this to you, as if I could know it well enough myself to give you an valid explanation about common humanity, Arabs, Christian, Arab Chistian, Arab Jewish, Arab anything you want to notice about them. People are people and we ought not be devided up like this in the world however we do get that way. And it's all in our head, yes, but at the same time we have to deal with the family and moiety in which we arrived. And, some of us, we have a mother of one and father of a different one, each with different expectations and maybe . . . they just never get it that they expect different things.

So if you imagine that there are those who do take advantage, it will be a very few, and it might be a compulsion, and perhaps it's only in one aspect of their life. So a theif might steal millions from the bank that he wrote the software, and he's a criminal because he gets to live for free. But that isn't at the same level as someone who is all about hurting people for real. There are levels of it. Some are bad in other ways. And everyone has something that they can improve in how they interact with others. In our lives, we don't get along with everyone well, we get along with some well. Adn some, not so much. And some pepole become problems. Problems are in the head. the head has priorities, adn the problem won't go away until you solve it. The person must solve that problem which so vexes as to compel one to feel that things are not right right now, I've got to do some something, which maybe the person doesn't even know what it is? There is some vexing problem? Solve the imaginary evil of the world?

Imaginary evil can not be solved. Real evil is often obvious. When it's real, and you need to act, you know it then and you act appropriatly when you let Spirit be the primary urge. If you don't know what I mean, I've gone off on a tangent anyway. My point before, and this is a rewrite, because there were glaring errors and I hate to imagine tha tanyone would misunderstand not to be so full of importance like someone will punch someone in the face for being politically opposed. But that loathing is real. We can't ignore it. That person who punched someone else most likely will need to mitigate his situation with teh courts and prosecutors, and maybe even a federal charge, thught I am not a big fan of that approach.

Imaginary evil can not be solved.

If you are crafting some kind of explanation of events, you tend to craft what some call 'conspiracy theory' and others 'speculative alternative conjecture', or just 'conjecture'. We conjecture but some take that, and through boasting, and the urge for false vallour, they 'run with it' (talk as if they know it's true, when they don't know that.). So the go on with a presentation of fraudulent message. It's fraudulent because it's mostly OK, like it makes sense. But the conclusions didn't happen through deductive reasoning, and the rules of logic didn't get used. The argument may have many flaws, and the person, perhaps at the boasting place, goes on and on with parts that are false. If you tell them, and prove to them, with evidence, the false nature of some of their premises, or the nonsequotor nature of it, you might recieve a curious reaction. A curious reaction?

Curious reaction

Some people when confronted with the spuriousness of their arguements, and the falsity of their premises, and the utter delusion of the conclusions, when confronted with the fragality of the authority from which they took their sources, the false nature of the narrative that eminates from some localles, some people will run wtih the false narrative anyway. Is that because of pride? Others, they'll just feel the fool a second or two. "I got fooled again." they might think. And then maybe they will want to hear more of what you have to say. However, the first kind, who runs with it, you might want to change the topic now. Move away from politics.

The difference between imaginary and delusional evil

The false narrative of some evil cause (evil cause false narrative) often compells some to behave very very badly. For example courts, for some centuries, would try people as 'witches' and then administer criminal 'justice' upon these victims. The people were perhaps suffering from some kind of chemical or alkoloid effect, like ergot or psychodleic-mushrooms. So, I guess, when false narrative becomes delusion? And it makes someone sucker punch somenone? It might depend on how many beers he'd had, how many shots, how many of those mushrooms he munched.

Even people all f-d up on drugs can worry about politics and be totally wrong about some of the issues. I keep getting off topic. Because it's a hard topic anyway, all these people and their knee-jerk protests.

Imaginary evil can not be solved.

Since imaginary evil cannot be solved, dare not speak of it much, it's better to realize that it's all of your imagination, and that is all you can ever really say it is, or a 'writing project'. Becuase we can not ever give someone a molded piece of pudding, and then tell them "Here, now, make this your whole world." False-cause false-charity is just like that: a molded piece of something that, while it's pretty and all, it ignores the reality of the world, and the necessary things that people need to replace it with a fable quality narrative about the world that draws cartoon cause people and then animates them in battle. But the authors of such animations often like to see it acted out on the street, and they hope to 'effect change' for the 'betterment' of . . . and you never really get a clear agenda, but just a lot of indignation if you start mentioning facts that they don't want to hear, or disagree with the most deeply rooted false-cause agenda that they worship as a life-cause. They are actually quite sad, after all , aren't they? And thank God that they don't really exist and that no one is really like that. But they are like the square-root of negative one. Even though they are imaginary, the use of the concept helps us to understand the way that things work in the real world. The real world, in this case, referes to the psychology of the fully hypnotized young-mind who is chanting along with the mega-phone guy who is paid to be there.

get to the flipside!

The flip side is when the cause is just, like Prague 1968. Everyone gathers and it really is holy. The Russian boys are there in their tanks, and the citizens of Prague just beam love at them. But beaming love is telling them truth of what actually happened and not letting them have their way.

The love wave that the Czech and Slovaks beamed off to the Politburo in Moscow took another 25 years, or so, to take effect. Eventually the tyranny dissipated but . . . from the vacuum of things flowed in from outside. A cliche: power abhors a vacuum.

If it's a situation like in Prague, 1968, we will all be there too. But we are going to keep it non-violent like the Czech did, and also like Martin (MLK) would have wanted. We are not at that kind of critical place where the Prague style protests are necessary or useful. Current protests against sane implementation of new policy just wastes the good will of the population, and exploits those impressionable youngsters who want to be part of a just and righteous cause.

The problem would be if I'm wrong? If there is villainy afoot? But the fact is it is only a week in to the new administration, and we all should expect that our new president is going to do things that he said he would. He is not a villain, so I am not worried.

People shouldn't worry either. Why worry? You know that the good will of America has always extended to the whole world.

I'm sure whatever new vetting process arrives for our guests, the president and his people will be most concerned with that not being a tyranny. If the cause is cheaper engineering for the corruptocracy of the tech industry: isn't it time that engineer's salaries were raised? We ought to stop poaching the brightest people. And other nations should be happy if we stop. That way they can task their smartest people to help with the difficult problems of the day. Let these brightest show up as diplomats and sage politicians on an international mission of good will, not as wage-slave scabs for the profiteers in the human-services re-billing industry.

August Tomatoes

In the back yard!

It's August. People are harvasting their tomatoes. Other people don't have any tomatoes. The chipmunks will eat every single one while it's still very tiny. You need a fortified and fenced in garden.

Somethings never change
nothing need stay the same
ah, but on a website
the constant change
 is kind-of the point . . .

change without continuity and tradition is often very hard to manage for those thrust into it. And thus the frame of things gives a place for the change to happen. If you violate that idea then you are coming up with something completely different and maybe no one will want to see your new idea, or use your great, new venue, because it's too far out, and very far away from what they currently care about. It's a nether or a meta and it's merely for a lark? Or does it become the next big thing? As fun as graphics are (CGI) and animation, and making a world to fly around in (like minetest, which is easy when you learn how) ultimately such a meta is a hollow place. It's a distraction during the season of gaming. It allows one to brush up on geometry and math, and architectural design, it gives people training in computer languages, it allows someone to make some graphical ideas, and pass a few hours of time every few days or so . . .

To live within such a realm really isn't possible.

Poem Shards

just who reads, who writes these poems?
off a mountain road the poet roams
but only in a poem.

Realizing that the empty
is empty
and not needing anything there.

just who shows up and for what?
I'm lonely or am alone or what does it matter?
driving off towards the nothing
walking along the nowhere path
up high
sure, it's a pretty view
but seen it, done it, jaded, back to the air port
he flew
his fantasy of happy vacation was through.

Coders Edge

served to you by:

Fedora 40

After 40 different versions what can one say about it anymore? It's installed in all my systems, a day earlier. There are a few minor issues, but no show stoppers.

I did some stuff with lvm to resize a root area. That took a very long time. It's on a machine that maybe just should be retired . . .

Fedora Core 38 beta

Ya, I decided to load Fedora Core 38 Beta about a month ago, and this machine kept shutting down . . . I think I finally fixed it. Tomorrow is the big release day for the Fedora Core 38. My production workstation is still running FC37. I don't know if I'll jump right on it right away. . .

my server is still resetting, or maybe I have it fixed. I decided to just remove plasma-desktop, as I don't use it. The journals were giving all kinds of errors with that, and I think that might have been the issue, conflicting with the gdm that I do use. Worst case I'd just go to runlevel 3 but, as I said in another column, I don't really even know if anyone views these pages anyway.

My production box would upgrade but the dnf says it would downgrade grum and associated tools, and that's never a good thing to do. I'm just not going to do it! anyway I'll check tomorrow when the offical release is and probably do it then. If I'm in the mood.

So now I've run every version of Fedora serving this website! that's a long time.

here is from a year ago:

Fedora Core 36 beta

It took some time to figure out how to defeat the new screensaver built in, but I was able to. It's the biggest downside to the new Gnome.

I set the keybindings to something I don't use, and then put in a custom keybinding to use the old tool.

There are other minor things that annoy too, like the restoration of a deleted file that I always have to delete again on every FC core upgrade. The file is name camera-shutte.oga. It's in /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo

At the precipice of coding.

a mountain trail often has a place with a great view and a perilous fall if you wonder just a bit too far to one side of the trail. It's called a precipice. It's not a scary place. It's a safe place that one passes through.

OK, so I've done an update to FC34.

the biggest issue was . . . . drum roll . . .a lock up of gnome.

and if i clicked on the activities button I would need to reload (log out log back in).

I was able to run stuff without that, and thus determined a list of files that might need to be removed. I did as full reinstall of gnome as such:

dnf reinstall gnome

then I did a

dnf list installed |grep fc33

which gave me a list of files to consider uninstalling.

from that I got the following:

first odd issue:

sudo was not at first working! I had to install it! I kept the configuration file so I have my preferences still set up.

dnf install sudo dnf reinstall gnome-* dnf reinstall kde* dnf reinstall NetworkManager* dnf remove gnome-screensaver dnf remove gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-20.04.0-2.fc33.noarch dnf remove xorg-x11-xkb-extras-7.7-33.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove compat-openssl10-1:1.0.2o-11.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove mozjs60-60.9.0-7.fc33.x86_64

there are still some fc33 packages, (I also looked for fc32 packages, anything older that was gnome)

sudo dnf list installed |grep fc33
biber.noarch 2.14-4.fc33 @fedora
gamin.x86_64 0.1.10-37.fc33 @fedora
libgta.x86_64 1.0.9-5.fc33 @fedora

if removing a package also removed large numbers of other packages, I left it. For each of the few that I did remove, I always would make sure by reading what would happen before agreeing to the transaction.

now the gnome-shell is working and it doesn't lock up. So which of the packages that I removed made the difference? I am not sure.

and so after just a few short hours of install, I've got my system working in away that seems normal.

the new gnome shell moves the icons to the bottom of the screen.

I find gnome-shell to be annoyingly poppy at times. I tend to do things rapidly, and all the popping can be nauseating.

It is helpful to learn how to use dnf. I've found that the reverse history stuff works as long as you haven't made too many changes. It's a dicey, though, to try and go back to an older revision but I did it ONCE. Next time it didn't work out so well. AT that point it was installing dnf and yum from rpms.

and I had success. It's the kind of thing that when you know how to do it . . .

but there was one other trick that I needed and it was a scary way to reset a password and I did discover how to do it. I'm not sharing that one (barely remember) it's like these things exist in a nether, and it's best to . . . let the knowledge fade unless you need it. It's too scary to dwell in that space.

anyway, gnome shell is working. It's not flighty and hanging up. And all it took was to remove the old packages of gnome that might conflict with it. And now I can continue with my review.
