Coders Edge

From Pattern to Process

a discussion on application development.

I've learned over the years, with software, that notes are often useful for keeping track of work accomplished, but that they often do not need as much detail as some would like. Beginner materials are nice for beginners. But professionals don't need to be hand-held as they go through the process of doing meaningful work.

Lately I have been studying 'namespaces' in Javascript. A trite subject? No one cares about it? Useful interfaces need this feature so that memory safe robo-spawning of process can result in a hopping and jumping experience in a computer graphic application: a video game quality would be nice, but it needs to be step beyond that to be next generation. So I imagine a videogame world with giant buildings (actually you can find this) in the 'level'. But instead of each 'pane' being tied to a single bitmap if it is the same kind of pane, each 'pane' of window in this skyscrapper world would be a single dynamic feed from some kind of source of content that animates. The portal view would be like being in Times Square, and in 3-D. That would be next generation.

We can wait 40 years for it.

You can catch glimpses of what I mean if you watch news stations. They will have a wall of tiny feeds that will animate through the screen as part of their introduction or graphical interludes. It's never anything useful to the viewer. What I want is a design that is useful for the viewer, that shows real information in real time, and that is easy to set up and use so that it will become ubiquitous.
