Coders Edge

From Pattern to Process

a discussion on application development.

Lists of lists is what software is, and the methods to interpret and also adjust these lists. And just as in truth functional logic there is also the idea of a complementary set of equations for any output written in a different way but with the same effect. This is why there was the ability to do logic with different kinds of gates. One type was settled on. It worked good.

As well one can make a band pass filter with just capaciters, which was prefered. Or one could use an inductor, but people usually use them. Even though it gave a very rich sound, and it had an effect that was enjoyible (I custom made one), it wasn't a typical filter. I made a super bass-band pass filter. I think used three inductors. So it was rich. And you tap off of it at different points along it's length for different effects.

Phil Spector constructed a box mechanism with various microphones along it to create a chamber sound effect which he then could mix and get some kind of wild something. That left pour Mr. B. W. of BBoys pulling over on the side of the road, and easily distracted kind of guy, and going 'what the hay, this is good.' Brian became obcessed with the sound and could never quite figure out how to get the same effect. But, you don't really want the exact effect. You at least want to know how so you can reproduce it and augment, paying tribute to the great one. Oh, ya, Phil, as far as sound recording goes, is a 'great one.' Mr. Wilson, too.

And Brian's giving a show this Friday night in Las Vegas which would be cool to go to, but I'll be at the Nutcracker in Boston on that day, so I won't be in Las Vegas. And Mr. Spector? Well, his edgey lifestyle finally led to his incarceration, which only goes to show that genius and morality do not always cooralate. if you really believe that life is but a dream then maybe you need to apply some restraint even if you are sleeping? even if you think it's all just a dream, better to not do debauched things and kill stuff because, well, maybe it's you waking around sleeping, acting it out. Boom. You spend the rest of your days in prison. So sad.

Well, God Blessed Both of them with talent. He blessed Brian with a true lover's soul with a sarrow that he carried around with him due to . . . well you read his story and figure out if how he got like that really matters. People loved the guy becuase of his genius and focus and attention to success. And he had some issues due to being a little bit beaten on by his dad, who he must have giant mixed fealings about. So why trouble him with that crap? If I could interview him I'd ask him about sound reinforcement, effect chaining, and methodologies for augmentation of prefered frequencies, and ellimination of those that need to be lessened. But we get teh interviews with brian, all inside Beach Boys, and they want to know things that, well, if they would only read Rolling Stone on-line, they would already know. But in the intersts of commerce, Brian engages this kind of encounter every so often. And it's a lot more fun, when you've read about him, to see how his concerts progress. It's an all in the family thing, which, when you are a Beach Boy is a very large and generous, with their talents, family. So, during his show, the band breaks into Ba'Ba'bara Anne and then a beavy of younguns come skipping out, and gleefully dancing around the stage. It's near the end of the show. It was a Saturday night, so it's not a school night. And if they are the kids of Brian and the Band they get to go up on stage and dance there, unannounced. Must have been a very lot of fun for them. Low key but gleeful.

Having read through, or listened to, a much of BW interviews I knew that Barbara Ann is the song the he loves to play for his kids, and they always dance to it, and sing along when he does. To actually see them do it was so awesome. And you could see how happy the children were to be there. Yes, Brian is a generous and loving guy to, when he's way pst the age of 60, to give his life to raising a crop of kids, when he already did it once with his first wife. What a guy.

I guess I am writing to say that it's not always about coding. You have to celebrate life, and also celebrate when other people do too. And they seem to be getting it right after failing at it before, or so it seemed to the world. I have often wondered if some of what Brian's story is wasn't just a way for him to get the world to leave him alone when he was so famous and talented.

I will say that I am very pleased that he is doing well these days. And, by the way, he's coming out with a new album this January, 2015, after the new year! So check that out when you get a chance.
