how do I even know if anyone even sees these pages? I suppose that's why I stopped updating them

And did he ever even get to that part about 'helmet safety' and that the guy in the photo wasn't wearing one?

Oh, no, yet another topic for the echo factory to pretend that people care about and repeat over and over.

 this is a lot more
             fun
         than wading
         in through the chan spam.

if you don't have proper fonts installed you won't see what this picture shows: the output of the echo command with unicode symbols as input. If you are blind basically the unicode are symbols that you could feel as shapes. If you have a 'font box', which would be like that divice with all the pins in it that you can place your hand inside, and the shape of your hand will appear on the surface. If such a thing locked, it would then let a blind person feel it and they would feel the shape. such a device that does that for font shapes would greatly aid the blind. It would be a 'kind of' high resolution new-braille. Call it a 'sean-box' font reader.

The Message Column

December is just about to happen!

This year the tizzied shopper-types, who looovveee the crowds and all, are a week ahead of what seems normal when relative to Thanksgiving. But that's just relative to Thanksgiving, not the other Holidays to come like the Solstace, or Christmas, or New Years. It's that Thanksgiving fell late in November this year.

The fury of socalled 'color-day Friday' seems to be but media hype. However, you might witness some strange behavior, people sitting around on a parking lot in the freezing cold when they could have stayed home, not wasted any effort getting there, and buying the stuff on-line from their desktop computer, or tap-tap-rap-a-wrap on a touch screen hand-held and buy it like that.

The mythology and fiction of 'black Friday' has built over the years. Many many people say 'OK, that is a day to avoid the stores and the malls'. If you live near 'destination Mall' where all the stores are mostly the same, and most of the 'good' stores were long ago consumed by the . . . out of . . . .(details fogged out with ellipsis), the mythologoy of when there was Caldors and Bradless and Kings, and JM Fields, and Jordan Marsh, and Radio Shack, Toys R U, an authentic New York Deli that you could walk right in and sit right down, or order at the counter, and every place that sold coffee didn't look the same. And every store didn't care the exact same thing all the time at the very same prices . . . And if you missed it and there were 'no rainchecks' it was just tough , to bad for you.

One by one the old retail empires collapsed, and there were so few stores that the 'big one' that was left made a whole bunch of different 'store front' looks all for the very same store. And in some of those House-stuff kind of stores the product almost looks like a seconds lot, or a in the case of one of the stores, all the 'furniture' seem to be returns to other stores, each piece unique in that store, with a 'good' price, but with some flaw or fault that makes the product unusable without major repair, and there is no guarantee that the item can be repaired.

The age of 'stores' is, of course, not over. Things do need to be stored. And they need to be stored near where people want and use them. We have what are called 'warehouse' stores. And what has been the fate of that?

Enter in the 'giant' one-store concept. They still have the warehouse, but they dont' ever have the warehouse store. You can imagine that you see 'sellers' but there is no way to know if it's a real seller whne you buy something from that site. What do I mean? How do you know? You see the name of a seller. It lists as being in such and such a place. How do you know that anyone else sees that same seller or gets those same deals? They know you are you shopping their site. They pretend to be many different sellers because they know you are the type who wants to 'spread the money around' and yet, how do you really know? You don't.

Coordinated shopping, when multiple people 'look' for the same item. That could be how you could know. Another aspect for a buyer: if you are a buyer for a corpration or government you really ought to be hidden from the sellers, they ought not know that you are looking, that way the office or governance can get a better price.

Buying and selling isn't going away. But the newest thing that the stores do is that they want you to touch the screen. Even if you are paying cash. They dehumanize you by rubbing it in your face that you don't get a discount if you don't submit to their tracking the customers like rats policies of 'discount cards' etc. So now, they say 'oh you must touch the screen to say you deny the discount.'

no, I'm paying cash. I'm not touching your screen. What are they doing now? A biometric scan? Why do you need me to touch the screen? I'm surprised at myself for being so emotional, but my conjecture kicked in about then. And I really have to wonder why this new 'touch the screen'.

Or how about this one that you see at websites. 'we have a new policy of blah blah blah which you can't do anything about and we are hazing you with it right now by blocking content that should be available in a very thin wrapper which is mostly annoying' and then they say "submit". Subtle choice of words. I don't do it. I don't 'touch the screen to deny' when I pay cash, and I am not impressed with modern retail, either on line or in the stores. Cash is the better choice. Tracking your customers like they are free range animals makes them furious when they finally figure out what is going on.

another thing: online searching for products is fully broken and screwed-with by spam product. You will find the same items at widely different prices on the same site. Other items will be spammed a hundred or a thousand times under different names, with the same pictures of the same item, again at wildly different prices. Beware the toy-car purchase at some of these stores websites. There will be a 'reseller' (but you can't know if they are legit right away) who will have it as a 'collectible' at a jacked up price when the item is still easily found on the pegs.

All in all retail is crap these days, the stores are grasping, and the mentality is that the public are sheep and will behave that way. The back room 'thinkers' will keep up with their 'Submit' methods until someone finally decides to put an end to the group think of herd mentality, and does something new and different. Maybe someone is doing it already? But for now, I know how broken retail is. And it's work to even think about buying items. They should make it easier not harder to buy. And the whole 'you must give us your finger print in order to complete the transaction' method of 'submit' and 'do as we say' mentality of some of these big-box resellers . . . is very alarmingly dehumanizing.

And yet, according to reports, people are clamoring at the doors and knocking each other over to get meager bargains every 'day after Thanksgiving' every year.

what would we be doing if we weren't doing what we have to do to counter the nonsense that other pepole do?

all the wasted time . . .

Spaceship Snowman

"But Dad, what about Spaceship Snowman? What kind of technology will he bring for us this year?"

"This year? you mean he's coming this year?"

If President Trump doesn't have due process, then neither does anyone else.

Deer in the headlights-look

Lead follow or get out of the way. And Adam, you're not doing any of that. Get out of the way, your process is bogus. you are a clown-show, a disgrace, and you make the power-elite look like fools and minions of the damned.

this song is from a very long time ago:

You've got that
deer-in-the-headlights
look about you

you've got that
deer-in-the-headlights
look about you

you've got that
deer in the headlights look
I don't know why you're such a crook

you've got that
deer in the headlights look
I don't know why
I don't know why

maybe give back some of what you took?

I don't know why
I don't know why

I don't know why you're such a schnook

You've got that
deer-in-the-headlights
look about you

you've got that
deer-in-the-headlights
look about you

look about you
look about you
look about you
look about you

(a call to welcome him
into awareness
of that which is about him)

Nancy, curb your dawg!

Through insight we plan for action!

And in Conclusion

"Sky King, Sky King, do not answer"

Inside an unexpected
forest of you there is a
sudden jambience
of your style
lighting up the darkness,
darknessing up the lighting,
it's all good,
in the city of light
and love
in the valley of the
ever-present you
it's the dream of
a true angel,
but a man just like you
ready to leap out of bounds
coming to you from the fringes
of far away laughter
being "magical kind beautiful "
and me digging you from a distant plautau
Don't be lonely.

Did I really write all that?

If Donald Trump doesn't have due process, then neither does anyone else.

my theory: they will rue the day that they let this go through. they are now to be merciliously exposed and shamed for being frauds, more they are patriots to the fatherland of communist marxist ideology than anything else, that is called social suicide. Soo even though I'm a forgiving type, and not a rabid right wing Republican minded john birtch type, the narrative 'seems' true enough now that those who are probably are not going to be putting up with the leftist crap and will demand that we get on with Justice. that would mean that what has been told about will come to fruitition. they will rue the day

Always choose the better narrative

I choose the fictional in some sense, the story of he who dares to say 'these people are a fraud'. It's Moscow 1936? Zombies of morality, the demorts decided to go all in.

in this column Truck-u-later steps in deeper . . .

Hello, it's October and the willful in Washington are being willful, in Washington. Trump is who he is, and 'they' have been out to get him from the start. There is nothing that can be done to convince them aside from just voiting them out but that doesn't work either in some states on account of . . . (on account of what?)

Their success in this matter would be their failure to be for real. Fully owned subsidieries of global-evil-co don't neccessarily think and act and do for themselves, but do what they get told to do.

蠱 work on what has been spoiled

Revelations that are too much information. How does one organize a life time of stuff that, once you die, is just going to be brought to the recycle? What does one do to gain relevance in middle age when the world basically passes over most people. Many are already dead? What is the point of going on?

Certainly not to just leave someone with a maudlin text. Overcoming addictions? You don't need to read my bullshit. Cheer up! Life does go on.

How does one forgive and forget? How does one stop drinking? How does one make their space less a mess? How does one protect themself from obsessive whatever?

Not with a negative put-down vibe, that is for sure. Pick it up, make it better. Spontaneity.

The object of his obsession

doesn't deserve the blow-back

the bad break up with someone who you were never really friends with in the first place. First he was too over the top and now he's too far in the other direction. Who is it really that needs to modify? the one who gets obsessed like that.

The dangers of unexploded ego

The fame-seeker projects his own anger about himself onto someone who used to be the object of his obsession. The person does not look at himself as obsessed, but instead blames someone he doesn't even really know for his obsessive behaviors. The fame-seeker blames the object of his obsession for the problem of fame-seeker having this obsession and instead of getting mad at himself gets mad at the object of his obsession, when, in fact, they don't even know each other and have never even met.

Fix your self and the world gets fixed around you

as an example . . . I have tried to do some introspective things as I come into awareness of my own flaws, and recognize the way I act and correct my self and make a better narrative for myself and for others.

you raise me up
from far away
when a memory
of you
lifts me!

Somethings never change
nothing need stay the same
ah, but on a website
the constant change
 is kind-of the point . . .

change without continuity and tradition is often very hard to manage for those thrust into it. And thus the frame of things gives a place for the change to happen. If you violate that idea then you are coming up with something completely different and maybe no one will want to see your new idea, or use your great, new venue, because it's too far out, and very far away from what they currently care about. It's a nether or a meta and it's merely for a lark? Or does it become the next big thing? As fun as graphics are (CGI) and animation, and making a world to fly around in (like minetest, which is easy when you learn how) ultimately such a meta is a hollow place. It's a distraction during the season of gaming. It allows one to brush up on geometry and math, and architectural design, it gives people training in computer languages, it allows someone to make some graphical ideas, and pass a few hours of time every few days or so . . .

To live within such a realm really isn't possible.

Poem Shards

just who reads, who writes these poems?
off a mountain road the poet roams
but only in a poem.

Realizing that the empty
is empty
and not needing anything there.

just who shows up and for what?
I'm lonely or am alone or what does it matter?
driving off towards the nothing
walking along the nowhere path
up high
sure, it's a pretty view
but seen it, done it, jaded, back to the air port
he flew
his fantasy of happy vacation was through.

The deep snow.

The deep snow. She doesn't know how deep. She didn't think about it. Depth of snow no one know in rills and hollows where you shouldn't go when the storm is fierce and the night is cold even you shouldn't be so bold. poem is from 2012 short story titled Blizzard Baby The morning light is hued in cold awareness. Warming in the sun the bunny explores the snow covered lawn. The tracks melt by mid morning. Bunny doesn't know what the song means, anyway. This giant bubble that we call awareness? Coders Edge

served to you by:

Fedora 40

After 40 different versions what can one say about it anymore? It's installed in all my systems, a day earlier. There are a few minor issues, but no show stoppers.

I did some stuff with lvm to resize a root area. That took a very long time. It's on a machine that maybe just should be retired . . .

Fedora Core 38 beta

Ya, I decided to load Fedora Core 38 Beta about a month ago, and this machine kept shutting down . . . I think I finally fixed it. Tomorrow is the big release day for the Fedora Core 38. My production workstation is still running FC37. I don't know if I'll jump right on it right away. . .

my server is still resetting, or maybe I have it fixed. I decided to just remove plasma-desktop, as I don't use it. The journals were giving all kinds of errors with that, and I think that might have been the issue, conflicting with the gdm that I do use. Worst case I'd just go to runlevel 3 but, as I said in another column, I don't really even know if anyone views these pages anyway.

My production box would upgrade but the dnf says it would downgrade grum and associated tools, and that's never a good thing to do. I'm just not going to do it! anyway I'll check tomorrow when the offical release is and probably do it then. If I'm in the mood.

So now I've run every version of Fedora serving this website! that's a long time.

here is from a year ago:

Fedora Core 36 beta

It took some time to figure out how to defeat the new screensaver built in, but I was able to. It's the biggest downside to the new Gnome.

I set the keybindings to something I don't use, and then put in a custom keybinding to use the old tool.

There are other minor things that annoy too, like the restoration of a deleted file that I always have to delete again on every FC core upgrade. The file is name camera-shutte.oga. It's in /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo

At the precipice of coding.

a mountain trail often has a place with a great view and a perilous fall if you wonder just a bit too far to one side of the trail. It's called a precipice. It's not a scary place. It's a safe place that one passes through.

OK, so I've done an update to FC34.

the biggest issue was . . . . drum roll . . .a lock up of gnome.

and if i clicked on the activities button I would need to reload (log out log back in).

I was able to run stuff without that, and thus determined a list of files that might need to be removed. I did as full reinstall of gnome as such:

dnf reinstall gnome

then I did a

dnf list installed |grep fc33

which gave me a list of files to consider uninstalling.

from that I got the following:

first odd issue:

sudo was not at first working! I had to install it! I kept the configuration file so I have my preferences still set up.

dnf install sudo dnf reinstall gnome-* dnf reinstall kde* dnf reinstall NetworkManager* dnf remove gnome-screensaver dnf remove gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-20.04.0-2.fc33.noarch dnf remove xorg-x11-xkb-extras-7.7-33.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove compat-openssl10-1:1.0.2o-11.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove mozjs60-60.9.0-7.fc33.x86_64

there are still some fc33 packages, (I also looked for fc32 packages, anything older that was gnome)

sudo dnf list installed |grep fc33
biber.noarch 2.14-4.fc33 @fedora
gamin.x86_64 0.1.10-37.fc33 @fedora
libgta.x86_64 1.0.9-5.fc33 @fedora

if removing a package also removed large numbers of other packages, I left it. For each of the few that I did remove, I always would make sure by reading what would happen before agreeing to the transaction.

now the gnome-shell is working and it doesn't lock up. So which of the packages that I removed made the difference? I am not sure.

and so after just a few short hours of install, I've got my system working in away that seems normal.

the new gnome shell moves the icons to the bottom of the screen.

I find gnome-shell to be annoyingly poppy at times. I tend to do things rapidly, and all the popping can be nauseating.

It is helpful to learn how to use dnf. I've found that the reverse history stuff works as long as you haven't made too many changes. It's a dicey, though, to try and go back to an older revision but I did it ONCE. Next time it didn't work out so well. AT that point it was installing dnf and yum from rpms.

and I had success. It's the kind of thing that when you know how to do it . . .

but there was one other trick that I needed and it was a scary way to reset a password and I did discover how to do it. I'm not sharing that one (barely remember) it's like these things exist in a nether, and it's best to . . . let the knowledge fade unless you need it. It's too scary to dwell in that space.

anyway, gnome shell is working. It's not flighty and hanging up. And all it took was to remove the old packages of gnome that might conflict with it. And now I can continue with my review.
