And did he ever even get to that part about 'helmet safety' and that the guy in the photo wasn't wearing one?

Oh, no, yet another topic for the echo factory to pretend that people care about and repeat over and over.

 this is a lot more
             fun
         than wading
         in through the chan spam.

if you don't have proper fonts installed you won't see what this picture shows: the output of the echo command with unicode symbols as input. If you are blind basically the unicode are symbols that you could feel as shapes. If you have a 'font box', which would be like that divice with all the pins in it that you can place your hand inside, and the shape of your hand will appear on the surface. If such a thing locked, it would then let a blind person feel it and they would feel the shape. such a device that does that for font shapes would greatly aid the blind. It would be a 'kind of' high resolution new-braille. Call it a 'sean-box' font reader.

The Message Column

When the truth turns out

to be lies

Oh how crazy Trump was to dare to tweet his authentic outrage back at that 3 AM time some weeks back. It's must be hard for some of these true-believing Democrats to finally understand that what we've been saying all along is true: you back the wrong horse, you support a false revolution. We aren't here to make Trump a king, we were all resisting to make sure that Dame Hill would just stay in the forest (at her gingerbread house? Depends who you ask, if she has gone Into The Woods, are Bill and her Hansle and Grettle? How so White privledge to be allowed to lead such a fairy tail life.

I try to leer away from this whole road pizza issue. It's a torid subject, and it ought not be true even if it is. A midlife guy's paradox because if things are true they are true and they stay true. But, you know, some people don't care what words mean. They make them mean. They make them meaner. They make them the meaniest mean mean you have ever seen. In the case of the bun in the back appartat-chat chick, (chick with a ? ) oh, ick, why can't you stick to the subject of this schitck and not go off with that gay humor sticky situation; for the good of this, and every nation, national security is international security. A breech is a breech and a beach is a beach and a bitch is a bitch and some people are just bastards.

In many circles it's ok when a woman gets truculent in her position. She does reptilian things? They say that you are judging her, how dare you. Can't you see how she (credit goes to Rush Limbaugh for pointing this out ) how she schruggles? (struggles?)?

Rightgous outrage is a wonderful thing, as a kind of explosive brew that clears the stale air out of the halls of governance. When people get angry sometimes they get clever. When they get clever they get new ideas. Those ideas might just solve vexing and lingering problems that have created a stale situation for constituents in need of relief. What relief does the full surveylance, under the guise of some rouse of foriegn interference, did a surveylance of a rival parties operatives, in full view of everybody in that province of their important wet-lands, not just a merky and festering bog, but a necessary and acceptible, totally in front of everyone-who-needs-to-know's eyes (without having to have nitty gritty details). There were no wires tapped. And wrapping paper doesn't wrap itself. There are rules in place and people can say, with their affirmative puke-of-lies utterance, from that quarter that 'no laws were broken'. As if that crowd ever cared about following the law. They don't need no stinking warrents.

Dead common cartel governance of well-placed insiders with a penchant to stay-on-cause and to not care, at all, about what the stinkin' law is really supposed to be. Clearly out of control and unhinged and then, they concocted a plethora of yummy gossip and lies about the other candidate, which is what pepole do during an electin, that kind of people, and they used it like a black face and then tried to paint it on the face of our modern champion, the guy from Queens who wears an orange tan like a sepia side show photo exhibit, except it's not sepia but a kind of sun-tan orange. It's funny. It's OK because he pulls it off. I like orange crackers. Glen (Glen who?) why would you waste them by crumbling them on your face?

So, ya, the last regime behaved just as we all suspected and tried to smear their hateful demagouging upon the continance of the most dashing current guy in the White House. And the outted all of the people of the current presidents organization (that is the allegation, is it true, oh please don't burst into steam, all you snowflakes. Upon the realization that your crowd has been lead by dupes and charliatons nad violators of the public privacy that you, too, dear blizzard dropping, from the clouds stormed up by . . . oh snow flake, don't burst into steam. Turn, instead, to a drop of cool water condensing it down to irrigate the parched lands in the scorched over regions of the liberal and progressive appaocalypse (which is all in your minds).

Snowflakes, they are useless when they block the road. They impeed the important things that will get done, even if they are just plowed to the side, that icey brew, a hard freeze? (the cold is the lies of the mendacious of the fake-news indusdry, who delude that they still have credibility). Yes, the water of the next generation, that awesome drink of legacy warm kind blooming into caring adulthood, got flash frozen by lies and propaganda and constant on-message harping of distrustworthy ideolouges. And it all snowed down upon the roads and by ways and got plowed to the side by the machines of this modern world, to melt in the warmth of the sun.

But even though a snow bank will just melt away in a few days of warm rain, it's still dangerous as a road hazzard and it will wreck thing in your undercarriage. So just let it be. Let it melt. It will irrigate the wetlands that naturally form on such days, on roadside, in fallow lowlands, where ducks and birds find heaven and live to raise their next generation. We all know that these true believers of the young crowd aren't really going to melt. They aren't really snowflakes at all. They've been lied to. They have been used. Their street-cred is constantly usurped. Those who usurp all causes can't be trusted to advocate for any of them. Free yourself from the mendacious appartchicks of the old order and reassess your own beliefs. The truth is never a lie, despite what Grace might have sung in her song. But her point is clear: what we think is truth often turns out otherwise. You move on. Find someone to love. Don't ask them their politics. Random acts of kindness? You might seem flightly and people will think you are out for something. Pick people you know, or meet, who need the help. And don't make a display of it.

Yes, it's awesome, being young and wanting to do good for a cause. But is it really a good cause? Why that cause? Enthusiasum is awesome, and fellowship between men (men: a term that means mankind which includes both or any category, gender, or whatever that you need to obcess about. It's an English language term that dates back centuries. People who tell you not to use it are misguided. they are being what is known as 'dialectical imperialists', which is a tactic of various dedicated apparatchiks for various causes of various authenticity.). So be one involved in the dance at the Summer festival. But festival rules: like fish, it all stinks after a few days. You got to Go on home, your momma's calling you (from Cosmic Charlie lyrics by R. Hunter)

I was hoping that it wouldn't get to this, that no one would have to go to jail for crimes that were stupid and behavior that wasn't going to work. Did the people in charge think that everyone in governance was as willing to violate the spirit of the law, and what does seem, if it's not criminal, it probably should be considered as such. The protocols were made loose. The submissive apparatchik was emboldened. Who knows what kind of subhuman operant conditioning goes on in that circle. Clearly the morality was gone, the sense of shamelessness gone wild. They were so sure, so very very sure. Oh, ya, technically . . . technically . . . but it violates the very moral principles that were the original foundations of our Liberal establishment. It shows us all, and it ought to be close to the end of their chapter of complete depraved corruption, it shows us all how the spirit of mendacious control-freak on-message urge has destroyed the moral credibility of a whole sector of our political establishment and made them seem to be little better than the creeps and thugs who they imagine their 'opposition' is: they had tried to smear any dissenters in whatever way possible. And now, now we see that they are just what they were telling others to delude their opposition would be when in power. They put their own putrid morality upon the opposition. They can't believe that anyone who opposes them could have any beliefs that are valid.

I'm just rambling on now. I don't really know what they could believe about who that oppose them. I don't know what they think of the 'opposition'. What I do know is that they have, at least, proven that the president was justified in his anger in the early AM upon discovering what really happened. If it were legal to do what those people did, during an election, is shouldn't have been.

Don't expect apologies from the left. Don't expect various solans of the Democrats to admit to anything. It would be remarkible if they would. I don't want any of these democrats going to prison for their crimes, but they crossed a fairly clear line, drawn back two-hundred and fifty years ago. Their violations require a response by prosecutors. And credible Democrats are well advised to get off the 'hate train' that is trying to sabotage the new administration.

I'm not suggesting capitulation to policies and programs of which you disagree. Of course if you have local aide you need and the 'sanctuary city' thing is a big problem, and you fear funds being cut off . . . you've got to do a show for your voters. You ccan't betray your immigrant friends, can you? so be authentic and outraged and oppose the guy who I support, with full force of bread and puppet (and being civil and non-combative).

Don't be a brainwashed dupe who auto-hates anyone one that paid-for celebrities say they don't like. Who makes them the arbitors? Is it even cool to ask people they voted for? The response of outspoken Trump-phobes will be interesting to notice in the next few days. Or will the left just pretend that none of it happened? na na na na. I can't hear you. These allegations seem serious enough that it might be that if people don't step up and say 'oh, sh_t, we were wrong, Trump was surveyled', they might loose some cred later, the next election.

I don't expect ideological conversions, but I do expect that the hysteria that some convey will now temper off.

The character shows through in how one react when one's truth is shown to be lies.

Political and Media Inanity

Kafka wrote comedy. Orwell was a pessimist. Depends who you ask.

Imagine if they both could have lived and made it to Los Angeles, post war, and been collaborators on writing romantic screwball comedies for Hollywood. If we search IMDB for movies written by Kafka, or by Orwell, will we find one? I kind of doubt it.

by Truck-u-later

Truck-u-later

in this column Truck-u-later steps in deeper . . .

We all know you've been watching me. I saw how you looked at me . . .

So let's review: the people calling in the hate-stuff to the . . . .were . . . themselves.

I was sure that 'technically' they thought that they had our president, when he did his furious accusatory 3 AM tweet. honestly, I said 'wiretap'? Doesn't he know that they are using IPV6 and no actual wire needs to be tapped. But I understood that he meant it in the general way of a 'wiretap' as a thing, not as a description of the actual activity. Ie: there is no wire so how is it ever a 'wiretap' anymore?

That's all just a technicallity and we all know that. All in all Donald is being Donald and I'm glad for him but I worry that it's a little bit overwhelming for him. He needs to remember that Republican's are only some of the people who voted for him. And I'm sure that he does.

It's been my contention that he mirrors back-at-chas to people. And so if they are nasty he seems nasty.

It was insightful to me to see a roast of Mr. Trump from many years ago and to see a certain wellknown, if not photogenic, shock jock personality (I won't name him) leaning over in a loving glazed up love lock on our beloved president and Donald just soaking it all up. Yes, Donald is well-loved by the people who love him.

It's too bad that Paul Ryan is still in charge at the House. It would be better for all involved if they choose a better person. A consensus person, maybe not from either major party? Mr. Paul? Mr. Sanders? How about a coillition speakership?

Or rotating speakers. Wait, Bernie isn't a congressman so it can't be him. Pence should do the Senate, let Rand do the house.

As far as Nancy and Chuck go, Well, Chuck, we need you to cluck. A spirited opposition, and aauthentic outrage, give credance to the idea that we actually debate and choose the best path instead of it being group think, lemmings over the edge. Look at all the beached whales of the democrat party.

Paul Ryan, I think you should gather together your spirit of self sacriface and move on. Let someone more of the mind of swamp draining be the leader now.

Fix your self and the world gets fixed around you

Somethings never change
nothing need stay the same
ah, but on a website
the constant change
 is kind-of the point . . .

change without continuity and tradition is often very hard to manage for those thrust into it. And thus the frame of things gives a place for the change to happen. If you violate that idea then you are coming up with something completely different and maybe no one will want to see your new idea, or use your great, new venue, because it's too far out, and very far away from what they currently care about. It's a nether or a meta and it's merely for a lark? Or does it become the next big thing? As fun as graphics are (CGI) and animation, and making a world to fly around in (like minetest, which is easy when you learn how) ultimately such a meta is a hollow place. It's a distraction during the season of gaming. It allows one to brush up on geometry and math, and architectural design, it gives people training in computer languages, it allows someone to make some graphical ideas, and pass a few hours of time every few days or so . . .

To live within such a realm really isn't possible.

Poem Shards

just who reads, who writes these poems?
off a mountain road the poet roams
but only in a poem.

Realizing that the empty
is empty
and not needing anything there.

just who shows up and for what?
I'm lonely or am alone or what does it matter?
driving off towards the nothing
walking along the nowhere path
up high
sure, it's a pretty view
but seen it, done it, jaded, back to the air port
he flew
his fantasy of happy vacation was through.

The deep snow.

The deep snow. She doesn't know how deep. She didn't think about it. Depth of snow no one know in rills and hollows where you shouldn't go when the storm is fierce and the night is cold even you shouldn't be so bold. poem is from 2012 short story titled Blizzard Baby The morning light is hued in cold awareness. Warming in the sun the bunny explores the snow covered lawn. The tracks melt by mid morning. Bunny doesn't know what the song means, anyway. This giant bubble that we call awareness? Coders Edge

served to you by:

Fedora 40

After 40 different versions what can one say about it anymore? It's installed in all my systems, a day earlier. There are a few minor issues, but no show stoppers.

I did some stuff with lvm to resize a root area. That took a very long time. It's on a machine that maybe just should be retired . . .

Fedora Core 38 beta

Ya, I decided to load Fedora Core 38 Beta about a month ago, and this machine kept shutting down . . . I think I finally fixed it. Tomorrow is the big release day for the Fedora Core 38. My production workstation is still running FC37. I don't know if I'll jump right on it right away. . .

my server is still resetting, or maybe I have it fixed. I decided to just remove plasma-desktop, as I don't use it. The journals were giving all kinds of errors with that, and I think that might have been the issue, conflicting with the gdm that I do use. Worst case I'd just go to runlevel 3 but, as I said in another column, I don't really even know if anyone views these pages anyway.

My production box would upgrade but the dnf says it would downgrade grum and associated tools, and that's never a good thing to do. I'm just not going to do it! anyway I'll check tomorrow when the offical release is and probably do it then. If I'm in the mood.

So now I've run every version of Fedora serving this website! that's a long time.

here is from a year ago:

Fedora Core 36 beta

It took some time to figure out how to defeat the new screensaver built in, but I was able to. It's the biggest downside to the new Gnome.

I set the keybindings to something I don't use, and then put in a custom keybinding to use the old tool.

There are other minor things that annoy too, like the restoration of a deleted file that I always have to delete again on every FC core upgrade. The file is name camera-shutte.oga. It's in /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo

At the precipice of coding.

a mountain trail often has a place with a great view and a perilous fall if you wonder just a bit too far to one side of the trail. It's called a precipice. It's not a scary place. It's a safe place that one passes through.

OK, so I've done an update to FC34.

the biggest issue was . . . . drum roll . . .a lock up of gnome.

and if i clicked on the activities button I would need to reload (log out log back in).

I was able to run stuff without that, and thus determined a list of files that might need to be removed. I did as full reinstall of gnome as such:

dnf reinstall gnome

then I did a

dnf list installed |grep fc33

which gave me a list of files to consider uninstalling.

from that I got the following:

first odd issue:

sudo was not at first working! I had to install it! I kept the configuration file so I have my preferences still set up.

dnf install sudo dnf reinstall gnome-* dnf reinstall kde* dnf reinstall NetworkManager* dnf remove gnome-screensaver dnf remove gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-20.04.0-2.fc33.noarch dnf remove xorg-x11-xkb-extras-7.7-33.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove compat-openssl10-1:1.0.2o-11.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove mozjs60-60.9.0-7.fc33.x86_64

there are still some fc33 packages, (I also looked for fc32 packages, anything older that was gnome)

sudo dnf list installed |grep fc33
biber.noarch 2.14-4.fc33 @fedora
gamin.x86_64 0.1.10-37.fc33 @fedora
libgta.x86_64 1.0.9-5.fc33 @fedora

if removing a package also removed large numbers of other packages, I left it. For each of the few that I did remove, I always would make sure by reading what would happen before agreeing to the transaction.

now the gnome-shell is working and it doesn't lock up. So which of the packages that I removed made the difference? I am not sure.

and so after just a few short hours of install, I've got my system working in away that seems normal.

the new gnome shell moves the icons to the bottom of the screen.

I find gnome-shell to be annoyingly poppy at times. I tend to do things rapidly, and all the popping can be nauseating.

It is helpful to learn how to use dnf. I've found that the reverse history stuff works as long as you haven't made too many changes. It's a dicey, though, to try and go back to an older revision but I did it ONCE. Next time it didn't work out so well. AT that point it was installing dnf and yum from rpms.

and I had success. It's the kind of thing that when you know how to do it . . .

but there was one other trick that I needed and it was a scary way to reset a password and I did discover how to do it. I'm not sharing that one (barely remember) it's like these things exist in a nether, and it's best to . . . let the knowledge fade unless you need it. It's too scary to dwell in that space.

anyway, gnome shell is working. It's not flighty and hanging up. And all it took was to remove the old packages of gnome that might conflict with it. And now I can continue with my review.
