And did he ever even get to that part about 'helmet safety' and that the guy in the photo wasn't wearing one?
Oh, no, yet another topic for the echo factory to pretend that people care about and repeat over and over.
this is a lot more fun than wading in through the chan spam.

Girded with truth he uses his mouth like a sword.
Kafka wrote comedy. Orwell was a pessimist. Depends who you ask.
Imagine if they both could have lived and made it to Los Angeles, post war, and been collaborators on writing romantic screwball comedies for Hollywood. If we search IMDB for movies written by Kafka, or by Orwell, will we find one? I kind of doubt it.
Oh the stories they tell . . .
It comes down to trust and credibility issues. Some people just seem mendacious, I'm not even hearing what they say anymore. It's like seeing a television show with the sound off. You can intuit about things based upon what you know about the show or . . . if you don't know the show what you see might make no sense at all.
Narrative, False Narrative, Story, propaganda, mendaciousness. Based upon their behavior, what they have said in the past, how they have treated those who disagree. How they have gone on about things: their rants. From all of this we find a method of handling their stream of data. In some cases, with some of these people, and we can almost lump them together, it's very hard to even listen to them puking out lies anymore. If I see their mouths moving I am sure that their 'on message narrative' doesn't have to have anything to do with actual events, but the perception of events, even if they never happened, in the public, as an abstract. So somehow that makes it all OK and they can keep on with their false narratives and subhumation of whole nations of people, flase report after false report in a constant stream. It's like you are at a zoo, and the critters in the cage are flinging mud and feces at you, in a constant stream. You can stand there and throw stuff back, and egg on the creatures (in this case of the festering bogs of corruption in the obvious governances of oh so scary, (NOT) people who can only delude to power, pajama's in the dryer so they can't be seen right now. They wrap themselves in their blanket of false narrative and think that will save them from the indignation of anyone who has tried to make sense of their mendaciousness before. On and on with their constant talking points, lie after lie after lie, blame them, blame some other them, blame a whole nation of people. It's so easy to tell when they are doing it because if you hear them saying anything . . .
Crying wolf, constantly crying wolf. anyone who who is aware of the constant 140 years of mongering? Who sees how the system of economic posers is crafted for the benefit of some few, on the inside, who have been successful in their constant badger, and their constant false narrative, and their 'theories' of rulership, and 'rulership classes', and the use of operant conditioning, and make susceptibility testing a part of the recruitment process, and using the term 'diversity' as code word for you are an evil person of an obvious ethnicity and I don't like you so we will only pretend that we are going to hire you but your not from our moiety so bugger-off and leave us, becasue you aren't susceptible anyway, so we know that we can't get you to do creepy things, and we know that you won't lie for us. So you can't ever get a job here.
Ya, that might seem a little bit paranoid.
So on an on with the narrative about 'The [Foriegn nation]'. The accusation: the 'Russians' hacked the election. OK, so we have a power elite that designs a networking system, as a monolith, for the sharing of data, and to set up a surveylence grid, in a way that makes it very easy to hack things. Basically the power-elite had government fund all of this infrastructure development, and then usurped it's use, and didn't care that it wasn't secure. And that clever people had set it up to let it be hacked. Becuse they liked the power that it gave them. So a corrupt, and probably intellectually nepotisic group of favorite children were promoted to places of power, and some small ideologically nepotistic clan subverted various urges for greater good, and they setup the spy system to they could treat all of humanity like one giant lab rat experiment, get the clowns dancing, dance, clown dance. They set up a system for sharing, hacking, and spying, and they wanted exclusive access to it's use. And they get upset, when unknown entities, peek into their festering data-bases and see what the kludge gives them, lookie here and see. Sounds like a fair thing to do with probable cause: the allogation: massive voter fraud has been a continuing practice in some districts. So is the real truth that someone hacked the election to prevent that kind of massive fraud? Could it be that the somebodies hacked into our grids and they firewalled the effect of the other group, trying to steal. see I can make up a narrative too. The fact: the election systems, financial networks, etc, were set up for use on quasi-public common carriers. And they were set up for sharing. Thus, if one is a 'hack', and isn't using encryption, then one can be doing things . . . that politness says not to.
Enter in IPV6. What do you need to know about that? Just let me tell you that it allowed for some channelling and routing capiblities so that end clients might not be aware of how a stream is selected, and modified, for the purposes of . . . and polite people won't give a purpose. Let's call it for 'spying'. So the system was modified to make it even easier to allow spying. But you might say, but I'm encrypted. on both sides. How can they get through that little design feature, you might ask.
As a software engineer I observed in horror as people were set up to take the various positions, and it often made no difference as to competence. Often it was to just fill in chairs. The people who will get rich in an IPO? Theire are no guarantees. In the case of TCPIP V6, it's design was a good thing, in some sense, and in another sense a typical example of the over reach of governance, at all levels. For what purpose all this open and interconnected everything?
When you were a baby, and you were in a crib, there may have been always someone nearby. In the case of a sleeping baby, maybe someone is in the other room. Sometimes parents walk away for a while. Some thing could happen. It usually doesn't. Society watches. She went out without her baby. She left it alone at the house while she went for beer and cigarettes.
So there is always the 'noisy neighbor' aspect. But in some cases governance becomes the obnoxious, pushy, overbearing, and agenda-mongering hyper-political nosey neighbor, people who take too much interest in other people's kids, who want to know too much detail about how you are doing, what your situation. And in some cases if you express an opinion that goes contraries to their distorted (slanted) sensibilities, they will rant off into a talking-point quality narrative, crafted by young-minds off in the wastelands of nepotistic governacne, where all the children of a certain chosen crowd (or does it only seem that way) come up with all of their fussiness, and dialog, and false narrative. They make agenda's and push them on the public. They are job for life people and cradle to grave leader-ship-class drones. And fussy nosey neighbor reads their feed, and does their bidding, and wants you to vote for their candidates, and hates Republicans, and . . . Needless to say that such people are depricated from the party list, better to not be on their demandvitation party guest list of people who they will demand come, but when they do just grill them about their beliefs or politics, or be too drunk to care. I'm channeling some bad party moments, that made me understand who were and were not really friends, or just nosey people who like to know, why? who knows. Nosey, selfish, self-indulgent, vindictive, and quick with mean gossip. What reason does one keep such people as friend anymore?
You can't explain it to them. You'd hope that they would figure it out on their own. And if they did that would give us a reason to want to be their friends again, if they could change and not do the whole 'Aunt bee, the nosey fussy gossip who always votes for . . . ' bit.
Getting to the point? People watch, get over it. Spies want to keep peace. Get over it. Some Russians want to know what is going on here so as we don't keep enabling certain retrograde behaviors elsewhere. Get over it. Socialists don't ever give up. They should get over it. Sometimes you can't stay friends with people. That's just life. Some people are angry and mean when rejected. They should be disempowered upon being thrown from office quicker and with better effect.
Yes, lame ducks ought to be prohibited from any further looting. And as far as banks and insecure internet? Why does the banking people get to be free riding the Internet? If they wanted a secrure and private network, with which they could have a much greater level of confidence about it's security, they could have done a private effort and come up with it on their own.
Just like cars don't drive on a railroad track, and that you don't try to drive a locomotive on an interstate, we could have had different channels for different types of communications. We didn't have to build a monolith and then say everyone must, and forever, always have just this method of physical channels.
I could speculate with conjecture about the reason for the communications monolith. But let me say that communication needs interpretation as well. part of that is knowing what channels to trust. AS far as the channels that are sourced in governance that has been mendacious as a constant tradition? Why would keep believing in you? When you have puked lies your whole career without concern for the cause of Justice (a very hard accusation, and I might be wronga bout this. The point: we simply don't believe anything thta they say anymore.
There is nothing wrong with watching, making sure people are safe. It's a good career. And just because people can doesn't mean that they do. If some Russian hacked (they were using a cyrrillick keyboard) does that translate to a concerted policy of hacking?). Anyone can put their keys into that Cyrilic mode, Russian or otherwise.
The theory: Spys have a moral code to keep the world safe. The narrative: even Russian spies are like that (of course). The solution: soon there will be a new president and perhaps a ferensic audit of the last 150 years of governace, at all levels. Maybe that's going too far. And if it could be done we'd find that most people thought, always thought, that they believed the true things and we doing good for the world. Most people in government and governance do a good job, and work hard, and most spies are about keeping peace and not about illgotten influence: but merely to keep things in ballance. You were a baby once, under constant watch. YOu are not a baby anymore. So maybe you don't need to be observed so much? But rememeber (and I have to give a shout out to JOe Rogan), In a prison the worst place to be sent is solitary confinement. We are social creatures. We thrive in the hive. We actually like that some people see. We crave observation. We crave attention. We are mostly conformists, at heart. And part of that is spying. The men who stood on the walls of the city. Night watch. Keeping the hours. Keeping our city safe. And now that city is the whole world. So if the Russians hacked why and for for what purpose? To observe? To know the truth? To prevent some other crime, like vote stealing? To steal an election?
In any case, nations will observe the doings of other nations. When a group deludes to be the new world order, like the lame duck crowd does, then, of course, they get upset at any counter-narrative. They see dark hearts all around them in everyone else, imagining their rivals would do what their own crowd would. In otherwords they see the new president as a villian becase they cast in the (false) way that they would behave: vindictively and petty. They can't imagine that he is not like that. They don't understand the necessity of his insult-comic sensibilities: it's a wall of inpenitrible snark, like a clocking device of sorts.
My conclusions: banks and finance ought to sure up their networks through new and secret side-networks, for the purposes of verification, and not jsut usurp public technology developed through government funding. Spys should keep watching, and keeping people honest. Clapper should tell us what he knows but understand that our skepticism does not constitute a crisis. The Democrats should ratchet down their hateful vidiciiveness against all thing non-Socialist. thecurrent president should bow out with grace (which may say goes against his nature).
People really can learn and change. But the conformism of necessary adoration that our current president displays probably means that he'll be kind of jerk in his last few weeks in office. He's been a jerk a lot, and divisive. He thinks for good reason. He has the Robin Hood delusion thing. Can he be gracious? Or will they cause problems for our incoming president and the reformation administration (the administration of reformation).
Most people in government do their jobs well, and are not corrupt, and don't take to group-think and agenda mongering. The government is not one mind, nor is it with common ends. Governance and government are not the same. Spies and watchmen are a necessary part of all society. We've all been spied on since birth. It allowed for better safety. It allowed us to thrive. We work better in a hive. We like to be accepted by our peirs, and we love praise and adoration. And Russians are not our enemies.

you raise me up from far away when a memory of you lifts me!
Somethings never change nothing need stay the same ah, but on a website the constant change is kind-of the point . . .
change without continuity and tradition is often very hard to manage for those thrust into it. And thus the frame of things gives a place for the change to happen. If you violate that idea then you are coming up with something completely different and maybe no one will want to see your new idea, or use your great, new venue, because it's too far out, and very far away from what they currently care about. It's a nether or a meta and it's merely for a lark? Or does it become the next big thing? As fun as graphics are (CGI) and animation, and making a world to fly around in (like minetest, which is easy when you learn how) ultimately such a meta is a hollow place. It's a distraction during the season of gaming. It allows one to brush up on geometry and math, and architectural design, it gives people training in computer languages, it allows someone to make some graphical ideas, and pass a few hours of time every few days or so . . .
To live within such a realm really isn't possible.

After 40 different versions what can one say about it anymore? It's installed in all my systems, a day earlier. There are a few minor issues, but no show stoppers.
I did some stuff with lvm to resize a root area. That took a very long time. It's on a machine that maybe just should be retired . . .

Ya, I decided to load Fedora Core 38 Beta about a month ago, and this machine kept shutting down . . . I think I finally fixed it. Tomorrow is the big release day for the Fedora Core 38. My production workstation is still running FC37. I don't know if I'll jump right on it right away. . .
my server is still resetting, or maybe I have it fixed. I decided to just remove plasma-desktop, as I don't use it. The journals were giving all kinds of errors with that, and I think that might have been the issue, conflicting with the gdm that I do use. Worst case I'd just go to runlevel 3 but, as I said in another column, I don't really even know if anyone views these pages anyway.
My production box would upgrade but the dnf says it would downgrade grum and associated tools, and that's never a good thing to do. I'm just not going to do it! anyway I'll check tomorrow when the offical release is and probably do it then. If I'm in the mood.
So now I've run every version of Fedora serving this website! that's a long time.
April 17, 2023 8:28 PM ESThere is from a year ago:
It took some time to figure out how to defeat the new screensaver built in, but I was able to. It's the biggest downside to the new Gnome.
I set the keybindings to something I don't use, and then put in a custom keybinding to use the old tool.
There are other minor things that annoy too, like the restoration of a deleted file that I always have to delete again on every FC core upgrade. The file is name camera-shutte.oga. It's in /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo
1:12 AM EST 9 April, 2022
At the precipice of coding.
a mountain trail often has a place with a great view and a perilous fall if you wonder just a bit too far to one side of the trail. It's called a precipice. It's not a scary place. It's a safe place that one passes through.
OK, so I've done an update to FC34.
the biggest issue was . . . . drum roll . . .a lock up of gnome.
and if i clicked on the activities button I would need to reload (log out log back in).
I was able to run stuff without that, and thus determined a list of files that might need to be removed. I did as full reinstall of gnome as such:
dnf reinstall gnome
then I did a
dnf list installed |grep fc33
which gave me a list of files to consider uninstalling.
from that I got the following:
first odd issue:
sudo was not at first working! I had to install it! I kept the configuration file so I have my preferences still set up.
dnf install sudo dnf reinstall gnome-* dnf reinstall kde* dnf reinstall NetworkManager* dnf remove gnome-screensaver dnf remove gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-20.04.0-2.fc33.noarch dnf remove xorg-x11-xkb-extras-7.7-33.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove compat-openssl10-1:1.0.2o-11.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove mozjs60-60.9.0-7.fc33.x86_64
there are still some fc33 packages, (I also looked for fc32 packages, anything older that was gnome)
sudo dnf list installed |grep fc33 biber.noarch 2.14-4.fc33 @fedora gamin.x86_64 0.1.10-37.fc33 @fedora libgta.x86_64 1.0.9-5.fc33 @fedora
if removing a package also removed large numbers of other packages, I left it. For each of the few that I did remove, I always would make sure by reading what would happen before agreeing to the transaction.
now the gnome-shell is working and it doesn't lock up. So which of the packages that I removed made the difference? I am not sure.
and so after just a few short hours of install, I've got my system working in away that seems normal.
the new gnome shell moves the icons to the bottom of the screen.
I find gnome-shell to be annoyingly poppy at times. I tend to do things rapidly, and all the popping can be nauseating.
It is helpful to learn how to use dnf. I've found that the reverse history stuff works as long as you haven't made too many changes. It's a dicey, though, to try and go back to an older revision but I did it ONCE. Next time it didn't work out so well. AT that point it was installing dnf and yum from rpms.
and I had success. It's the kind of thing that when you know how to do it . . .
but there was one other trick that I needed and it was a scary way to reset a password and I did discover how to do it. I'm not sharing that one (barely remember) it's like these things exist in a nether, and it's best to . . . let the knowledge fade unless you need it. It's too scary to dwell in that space.
anyway, gnome shell is working. It's not flighty and hanging up. And all it took was to remove the old packages of gnome that might conflict with it. And now I can continue with my review.
