And did he ever even get to that part about 'helmet safety' and that the guy in the photo wasn't wearing one?
Oh, no, yet another topic for the echo factory to pretend that people care about and repeat over and over.
this is a lot more fun than wading in through the chan spam.

Jesus Christ is The Way!
I've spent some time in California as an observer, not really vacationing, but road-tripping. Road tripping makes perfect sense in California. It's the kind of place where people are either nice and friendly or . . . well you know the score, I'm sure.
And being a person who likes to take a long drive it was a revelation to me when I got to the place where I was able to understand my own obsessions about 'place'. California can not be 'summed up'. Nor can anyone give you a valid description of 'Chicanos' or 'Latinos' or 'Tejanos'. There are too many people in those categories, and the categories themselves are flawed. We just don't need to be terse. No one can understand or say to speak for such vast populations of people.
But there is a myopia that happens with some people. They have a narrative with which they invest heavily and it is full of concepts of 'us' and 'them' based upon . . . ? ? ?
One would hope it is based upon some valid education or life experience of theirs. And so it's OK for people to think in terms of 'Latin' or 'Italian' or 'Christian' or 'Jewish'. And just because some use words that are . . . in a sense just glosses, the words are in some sense necessary for people to understand the stories that are being told about the past, and other people. People self identify. So it's not something that you can pretend isn't real.
And so we hope for that age when all of that, what I would politely call B_llull Shiiiee, you can guess what words I'd use, we hope for an age when whole groups of families wouldn't self identify as an 'us' and then put upon some other families a 'them' and life in a world of constant grudge. We all know that a Mexican or an American or an Italian or an whatever is who she/he/? is and represents a singular person: them-self. And thus when you see some one who you see as different it's kind of sort of insulting, in a sense, to imagine that everyone who has that same look, whose from a similar pool of family ties, who is of what we would call 'the same type' if we didn't see saying 'type' as being perhaps indicative of some kind of bigoted point of view. The allegation: people who grow up in a 'privilege' situation have deeply embedded stereotypes that they harbor, which are fallacies. OK. But that ought to apply to everyone and anyone. But, instead, it gets applied to those who imagine their own 'privilege'. Luxury comes in very many different flavors and kinds.
So we all have these preconceptions. And when we see a room of people do we see a room of 'all this' or 'all that'? Or do we see a group of individuals? But in the case where people are really banded together, ie: they affiliate with each other and support each other in some background way, that no ne else outside their group has privy to. What does it matter, they are all together and fine. Great. But what if they are all together and fine and their business is to prey on all of the other families who are also all together and fine? Sounds like a criminal family, in some sense. But if that is so, is it really? Or is that just a counter narrative to that of the families success, on account of them working together? And jealousy has made someone so envious come up with this counter narrative of 'they get it through illicite means'. Far fetched to go along with such . . . but then we are faced with something like a criminal drug mafia. Fast forward to Juarez. It represents the health of the nations. When Juarez suffers the world rots from there. So we know how horrible it was or is there and what kind of villainy went on. And are we to forget about it? And disrespect the people who have lost their lives? It was a situation made worse, perhaps, by scheming of presidents and kings (of the various institutional realms of governance) and the loose policies in some areas created a tsunami of . . . bad tidings. Let me just say, that without providing for you any examples, I will state that the news out of Juarez, and those places in Mexico near to there, got really really grim about 7 or 8 years ago, and it wasn't anything that America did, or wanted. But maybe what criminals wanted. A drug war? So they say. The fact of how much violence that went on, goes on there . . . my point?
But we know that just over the border in El Paso we are just a little bit (a lot) safer. And appartently in San Jose, you are getting to the place that should be even safer, you might think. But what is it that made it unsafe?
It's an attitude. It's a point of view. It's this 'ra ra us, damn you all opposed to us' point of view that isn't particularly San Jose old family California (the colonial Mexican/Spanish). It's not restricted to proud San Jose aristocratic California-Mexican. It's the kind of crazy that can come from any well-healed or un-well-healed family. It's just garden variety supremicism, and it has no purpose beyond the borders of the regin, and gets no respect even at home. If that is all you are, and you feel beleaguered, and you are part of a well connected old-line family who has a mayor and a chief of police running a town, can you really keep blaming 'anglos' for the problems in your community? Of course some can, and some do. Probably there are a lot of people from those same families who know that strain of crazy. I've heard the same kind of crap from a certain type of grandparent who feeds their kids and grand-kids with old world provincial hatreds, hatreds based upon things that happened centuries ago, Islands where all the French forces were slaughtered (it has happened repeatedly through out history to French forces).
So my response when faced with that kind of attitude is to say 'why are you telling me? what did I ever do to put your people, as you call them, down? And if one of your family is a mayor, and the other a cheif of police? Are you really being kept down? Maybe there are other problems that go beyond some simple minded sociological dichotomy of lineage?
Maybe so, we can hope. On the street we get what we see. And those who use their ethnicity as an excuse to do a beat-down are just as criminal as those who do it just for the thrill of it. In either case it's a criminal assault on people who did not deserve (no one ever deserves a beat down where they really get hurt).
OK, so I do understand the idea of a 'beat down' It's something that is done to a willful violator of others as a way to 'smarten them up' when law or other authority seems to not work. A beat down might also involve a hit, which would be sanctioned but not by government or courts. If you want to know who sanctions such things I am only telling you hearsay, and I don't know anything about this more primitive form of fraternity of order. Maybe I'm just making it up to put the fear in anyone who thinks that they have license to be the ones to do political beat-downs. A beat-down is always tyranny, and always criminal, but sometimes, some will say that they are . . . Should I complete the sentence? Am I writing for naves? People who don't read the paper, don't know about paying your debts to your heroin dealers or your bookies, people who think that they can get away from stealing from a criminal drug dealer? Guess what, it might be illegal but it still has a code of ethics. Is that hard to understand?
So we can live in the world of fear and imagine that there are these scary groups who oppose our group and keep us down. And only give justice to those of our group which some allege has happened last week in San Jose (time will tell. We need to see if anyone gets charged for the lynchings that happened. If justice is only for your own that it is not justice at all. But that never justifies anyone to do a 'beat down' on someone who they use as a scapegoat to represent what they perceive as the evils of some 'they', opposed to theirs. If justice is only for the ones of your own type, it isn't justices. And if you think it's OK to do 'payback' and withhold the support of law enforcement for those who you delude are your political opposition? You are a criminally minded person who does not deserve to be in leadership if you think that justice is only for you and yours and not for anyone who you don't like.
Clean water, even for you enemies. Justice is a form of clean water. There is no acceptable level of violence against political opponents. Everyone is outraged by it, for the most part, who has a credible voice. Anyone who makes excuses for such lynching, as like what is alleged to have occurred last week in San Jose, anyone who justifies it for any reason, they really shouldn't have wide distribution for their fomenting.
So we need to wait and see how the justice gets administered. And what we hear some say about their political opponents is really them facing their worst fears about themselves? We wish.

Billion dollar ideas? They are all around us!
Alright. We'll be changing it up a little bit!.
. . . well . . . Truck-you-later!The conveyed possibility isn't the same as the actual occurance. one is a fiction, for the purposes of readership. The second, a sad and delusional descent into a hell of a hall of mirrors: one sees one's own hatred reflecting back from everyone. You don't see them, but what you reflect off of them. You don't know them at all, really, then, do you? So how can you hate them?

you raise me up from far away when a memory of you lifts me!
Somethings never change nothing need stay the same ah, but on a website the constant change is kind-of the point . . .
change without continuity and tradition is often very hard to manage for those thrust into it. And thus the frame of things gives a place for the change to happen. If you violate that idea then you are coming up with something completely different and maybe no one will want to see your new idea, or use your great, new venue, because it's too far out, and very far away from what they currently care about. It's a nether or a meta and it's merely for a lark? Or does it become the next big thing? As fun as graphics are (CGI) and animation, and making a world to fly around in (like minetest, which is easy when you learn how) ultimately such a meta is a hollow place. It's a distraction during the season of gaming. It allows one to brush up on geometry and math, and architectural design, it gives people training in computer languages, it allows someone to make some graphical ideas, and pass a few hours of time every few days or so . . .
To live within such a realm really isn't possible.

After 40 different versions what can one say about it anymore? It's installed in all my systems, a day earlier. There are a few minor issues, but no show stoppers.

Ya, I decided to load Fedora Core 38 Beta about a month ago, and this machine kept shutting down . . . I think I finally fixed it. Tomorrow is the big release day for the Fedora Core 38. My production workstation is still running FC37. I don't know if I'll jump right on it right away. . .
my server is still resetting, or maybe I have it fixed. I decided to just remove plasma-desktop, as I don't use it. The journals were giving all kinds of errors with that, and I think that might have been the issue, conflicting with the gdm that I do use. Worst case I'd just go to runlevel 3 but, as I said in another column, I don't really even know if anyone views these pages anyway.
My production box would upgrade but the dnf says it would downgrade grum and associated tools, and that's never a good thing to do. I'm just not going to do it! anyway I'll check tomorrow when the offical release is and probably do it then. If I'm in the mood.
So now I've run every version of Fedora serving this website! that's a long time.

It took some time to figure out how to defeat the new screensaver built in, but I was able to. It's the biggest downside to the new Gnome.
I set the keybindings to something I don't use, and then put in a custom keybinding to use the old tool.
There are other minor things that annoy too, like the restoration of a deleted file that I always have to delete again on every FC core upgrade. The file is name camera-shutte.oga. It's in /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo

At the precipice of coding.
a mountain trail often has a place with a great view and a perilous fall if you wonder just a bit too far to one side of the trail. It's called a precipice. It's not a scary place. It's a safe place that one passes through.
OK, so I've done an update to FC34.
the biggest issue was . . . . drum roll . . .a lock up of gnome.
and if i clicked on the activities button I would need to reload (log out log back in).
I was able to run stuff without that, and thus determined a list of files that might need to be removed. I did as full reinstall of gnome as such:
dnf reinstall gnome
then I did a
dnf list installed |grep fc33
which gave me a list of files to consider uninstalling.
from that I got the following:
first odd issue:
sudo was not at first working! I had to install it! I kept the configuration file so I have my preferences still set up.
dnf install sudo dnf reinstall gnome-* dnf reinstall kde* dnf reinstall NetworkManager* dnf remove gnome-screensaver dnf remove gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-20.04.0-2.fc33.noarch dnf remove xorg-x11-xkb-extras-7.7-33.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove compat-openssl10-1:1.0.2o-11.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove mozjs60-60.9.0-7.fc33.x86_64
there are still some fc33 packages, (I also looked for fc32 packages, anything older that was gnome)
sudo dnf list installed |grep fc33 biber.noarch 2.14-4.fc33 @fedora gamin.x86_64 0.1.10-37.fc33 @fedora libgta.x86_64 1.0.9-5.fc33 @fedora
if removing a package also removed large numbers of other packages, I left it. For each of the few that I did remove, I always would make sure by reading what would happen before agreeing to the transaction.
now the gnome-shell is working and it doesn't lock up. So which of the packages that I removed made the difference? I am not sure.
and so after just a few short hours of install, I've got my system working in away that seems normal.
the new gnome shell moves the icons to the bottom of the screen.
I find gnome-shell to be annoyingly poppy at times. I tend to do things rapidly, and all the popping can be nauseating.
It is helpful to learn how to use dnf. I've found that the reverse history stuff works as long as you haven't made too many changes. It's a dicey, though, to try and go back to an older revision but I did it ONCE. Next time it didn't work out so well. AT that point it was installing dnf and yum from rpms.
and I had success. It's the kind of thing that when you know how to do it . . .
but there was one other trick that I needed and it was a scary way to reset a password and I did discover how to do it. I'm not sharing that one (barely remember) it's like these things exist in a nether, and it's best to . . . let the knowledge fade unless you need it. It's too scary to dwell in that space.
anyway, gnome shell is working. It's not flighty and hanging up. And all it took was to remove the old packages of gnome that might conflict with it. And now I can continue with my review.
