His Honor the Mayor of Boston
Tom Menino
Will be honored in Boston and throughout New England
The thing about Mr. Menino was that you could disagree with his politics but he was not a disagreeable man. As a matter of fact he made of point of being there as a constant during many different seasons of the City. I can share with you a day that was 'happier times' in one sense.
The City was electric with Politics. It was Autumn. A new statue at Quincy Market got unveiled that day. And then a service for the dearly departed Red Auerbach took place right across the street at City Hall Plaza. I managed to make it to both events. The first I had just stumbled upon. The second, I think that I planned on being there.
It was my plan to take pictures of famous people.

As Mayor, Mr. Menino was a listener.
First, at Quincy Market, I got to see up close the large families of the last three Boston Mayors. Mr. Kevin White has a statue dedicated to him. It stands right near Quincy Market. November 1 2006 was the unveiling! I came upon this scene without knowing about it. There they were, the Three Mayors! Very dapper. I know, the political opposition is going to say "Larry, Moe, and Curly", but that is actually a compliment because Larry, Moe, and Curly were well loved.
Tom was a guy with a speech variation. He spoke with a very on-the-street Dedham/Reedville Hyde Park dialect that many intentionally derided. But the competence of Mr. Menino as a for-the-people-itician (politician) has not been matched. Even those who made sport of Mr. Menino's ideosyncratic word and consonant swapping understood Tom's extreme competence as a politician. This authentic man did have some issues with swapping nouns in words, and stumbling over copy that might have been presented on a teleprompter. But the man never stumbled over people.
At one point I was able to do an impression of him. I would do it in my car while listening to A.M. ridicule drive time. What I realized was that there was no making fun of what Tom meant. He just wasn't good at reading teleprompter copy. Plenty of people are dyslexic like this. There lack of talent at narration is not a measure of their political competence or there savvy as a leader. They think and speak the truth. Yes, they don't recite Shakespeare with aplomb. But they probably understand it as well, or better, than more erudite speakers do, who have perfect diction.
Probably one of the reasons that Mr. Menino had some issues with how he came off as an orator is that he thought with such speed that his words were in the past as he said them. His mind worked quicker, like a river in full flood. But he wasn't a river that over ran it's banks and makes a mess of things. This would be a river that flows where it is needed. It floods the dry fields. It floods the dry fields and it doesn't ask for anything by doing it.
So even Mr. Menino's political opponents understood that this was a good man who had a tough job. They love the guy even though they don't support much of the agenda of the party that he always boosted. Mr. Menino was, in one sense a redeemer of that party. And though Mr. Menino was a party guy, he also did the right thing beyond the idea of party.
The man is gone. He will be missed. Anyone studying politics should study this man's career.

It is interesting to note that the statue unveiling happened just before the Red Auerbach tribute event. Mr. Menino and Angela were the only ones to attend both events.

It's August. People are harvasting their tomatoes. Other people don't have any tomatoes. The chipmunks will eat every single one while it's still very tiny. You need a fortified and fenced in garden.

Fix your self and the world gets fixed around you
as an example . . . I have tried to do some introspective things as I come into awareness of my own flaws, and recognize the way I act and correct my self and make a better narrative for myself and for others.

Somethings never change nothing need stay the same ah, but on a website the constant change is kind-of the point . . .
change without continuity and tradition is often very hard to manage for those thrust into it. And thus the frame of things gives a place for the change to happen. If you violate that idea then you are coming up with something completely different and maybe no one will want to see your new idea, or use your great, new venue, because it's too far out, and very far away from what they currently care about. It's a nether or a meta and it's merely for a lark? Or does it become the next big thing? As fun as graphics are (CGI) and animation, and making a world to fly around in (like minetest, which is easy when you learn how) ultimately such a meta is a hollow place. It's a distraction during the season of gaming. It allows one to brush up on geometry and math, and architectural design, it gives people training in computer languages, it allows someone to make some graphical ideas, and pass a few hours of time every few days or so . . .
To live within such a realm really isn't possible.
