how do I even know if anyone even sees these pages? I suppose that's why I stopped updating them

And did he ever even get to that part about 'helmet safety' and that the guy in the photo wasn't wearing one?

Oh, no, yet another topic for the echo factory to pretend that people care about and repeat over and over.

 this is a lot more
             fun
         than wading
         in through the chan spam.

if you don't have proper fonts installed you won't see what this picture shows: the output of the echo command with unicode symbols as input. If you are blind basically the unicode are symbols that you could feel as shapes. If you have a 'font box', which would be like that divice with all the pins in it that you can place your hand inside, and the shape of your hand will appear on the surface. If such a thing locked, it would then let a blind person feel it and they would feel the shape. such a device that does that for font shapes would greatly aid the blind. It would be a 'kind of' high resolution new-braille. Call it a 'sean-box' font reader.

Buds a bloomin'!

Spring time with

changeable weather

 Know that He has
 established it upon the waters,
 made low the lofty peaks
and caste them down into the sea.
 And that which is unknown
and down below the sea, not privy,
upon which rests the deep water,
that lays low
and someday springs up new mountains
which slice the oceans into pieces.
New oceans new mountains,
rivers ebbing and flow
and bringing low
all of the loft and pomp of demagogues.

Suddenly all things are healed and well.
There are no puppets just lovers of the Lord.

People need to remember to be kinder to each other.
Politics is beat.

Calling out racists

should not be done publicly

Calling out racists for political gain is often called 'race baiting'.

The laws are for everyone, even racists and haters. The job is not to ruin the racist's life, but to educate and enlighten those who harbor racist sentiment. The real test is how they interact with real people. The smack talk that people make, provincial braggadocio, ought not be used like a noose. How do they treat people when they are with them, or interact with them? Do they treat them fairly with weights and measures? Do they respect the rules of personal space? Do they refrain from saying belligerent things to strangers of the group about which they harbor retrograde views? They may very well know that they harbor these thoughts and wish that they did not. It is not correct to call their fallacies crimes. It is good to correct them, not good to use their fallacies as nooses.

If you hear them say it, correct them. Don't out them in the national press for passing comments. Now, if they file law suits and do harassing things constantly, then they need to be attended-to by those who enforce laws against harassment. But to say that a bad idea is a crime? The bad idea is racism. Or hate. And then it is called a crime. Thought, passing thought, fallacies, are suddenly crimes. It's not a bad act of aggression, but a thought. The problem is that no one could even know the thoughts, we are unable to read minds. We can only base our conclusions on our own observations. And we are never allowed a complete view.

Well, an obvious question is what do those who want to 'study' hate really want to study? It is not a 'what' but a 'who'. And if politics the 'who' is usually the real or imagined political opposition. They want to study the blogging practices of who? For what purpose?

I can tell you I've studied comment blogging myself for the purpose of trying to understand if all the hate that seems to be there in comments to news reports found on the web is real.

Is hate, at all, real? It sure seems like it is at times. Those who fill up the Internet comment's sections with their smack talk, and neigh-saying, and are 'on message' really seem to transcend all ideologies. Who are they? Are they a real person?

It's that one who has to chime in all the time leading the story back to a talking-point of a political ideology. The comment makes horrible, mean, snarky observation and then says “just sayin”. That phrase might have been a cute phrase in the early Nineties, but now seems to be a tell for bald and bold and blanent troll-baiting and innuendo for the purposes of political ideological mongering. mongering: activitives that aren't based on communicating truth, but instead are just designed to maximize vote count in favor for whatever or whoever is being mongered.

My conclusion: most of what might be called 'hateful' is just propaganda: people troll and auto post. They even have multiple identities.

Do I have proof of this? The forms are so obvious. It's a quick comment, diverting attention from the real issue. It's usually someone pretending to be a kind of person who is an obvious gross stereotype of a real person.

Usually the commentators pretend to be conservative. But the point of view that doesn't exist in anyone you would really meet: where does it come from? Let me make something up: It is the imaginings of someone who is pretending to be those who he/she/it is directing their propaganda war against. It is perhaps what a long-island 'immigrant' second generation SI plant's point of view. “I'm just saying.” means, in many cases “I'm Just making it up”. I leave you with innuendo and, I ought to know, I have nothing to back it up with. I use cute turns of phrase as if I'm 'just talkin' to ya'. But actually I've given this a great deal of thought. But still a clever story, a plausible personality who doesn't actually exist, a worst case example of the imaginary opposition, a banal and gross stereo-type to create fallacies within the minds of people who go and vote.

Usually when someone says 'just sayin' they have nothing to back up whatever it is that they said. It's an innuendo

So what is it that I am just saying? In any case: don't believe it if it looks like hate and it is on the web. Skip right by it. It isn't real.

And as far as children of Eastern European spies who are fully brainwashed and deep within the power structure? If it isn't true than why does the idea threaten you so much? Eh? hopefully LOL, if not . . . JKB. Love-ya, babe.

See what I did in that last paragraph? More made up stuff.

People if it looks like hate don't believe that it comes from a real point of view. If it looks like hate and it is anonymous on the web. Skip right by it. It isn't real.

If it looks like hate and you can name and know who it is that posted it you might have an obligation to give a brother some light: call them out on it! But don't do it for political gain. And don't try to 'destroy' them. And don't think that laws don't apply to them now. Do not dehumanize them. The law is for everyone, all of the protections that can be afforded, even to criminals and murders, even if you don't want to believe it. And all people can make good for the things that they got wrong before. And they do need to go through the process of recovery, and perhaps have to serve time if they really did crimes. But for fallacies of thought? For harboring antique ideas? No. What those people need is education and not punishment.

So what is it that I am just saying? Don't believe it if it looks like hate and it is on the web. Skip right by it. It isn't real.

It's a fine page and it works in firefox. It can easily be modified to work in pretty much every browser that has CSS3, Javascript enabled.

  🌛 🌜 When Moons
       Oppose (ver IV)

My Moonie Moon means he meets his fate
outside the boundries of the date
Moon moonie moon he meets his date
outside the boundries of their fate.

 And they rise on high
up to the platuae place in the sky
because he always wanted to be that guy
       didn't matter
           didn't matter
       didn't matter
             if he even
          wore a tie . . .

   Oppose this
outside the factory in the fall
with a sign from G_d in the sky
and he never looked back no why
because he always wanted to be
           wanted to be
                     that guy.

And he didn't even have to
          ever
               ever
                    ever
      ever
           ever
                     ever
      wear a tie!

  In love with each other
  blah blah
 into different directions they
   rush try
 to remember
 to meet again back here
 next life
     next century next
           year
  next year.

 The world suffers not
 from what you imagine.
 Gain, loss? how much
is all that worth when you are dead
   and gone
and you don't even have to
       ever
          ever
            ever
        be that guy
 you don't have
 to be that guy

 no no no
you dion't have to be that guy

 no no no
you don't have to be that guy

So he says in his head
on his surf board of living in the sky
with his mind on board that plane he's an
  eagle
     with a mission
 to explain.
and he is going to make sure
it all comes out just the same
 as he wants it to.
in his heart and in his mind.
  He is an eagle
         an eagle

When the show ended
 the band packe up nice
they had all the brews that they needed
already chilling on ice
In the morning with the wind
it all sounded just the same
he always thought he'd love to hear
   that whistle music playing.

 Life is not a synopsys
    of everything gone wrong
 Sometimes there is meaning
 sometimes it's just a song.
     Sometimes you can love them
      and leave them far away
because really whats to tell them
that you'd could ever tactfully say?

Political and Media Inanity
by Truck-u-later

Unilateralism

In the Philippines?

wow, an article today about how This Philippines will allow the United States Military back in now that they need us again. The Lords of the Dance HAN leaders are quick to exploit the weakness of the American president so . . . I guess the Philippinos feel nervous. But just how nervous? And how popular? The article goes on with a further little gem of fact-oid:

An article from LA Times has a quote talking about how this can all occur

"without specific approval by the Philippine Senate"

So a major sea-change in the way that we deal with Asia occurs and they don't even get a vote? How can we feel competent that this is actually the right way to proceed? What will we do if prudent Philippinos demand a vote? How will the US Military deal with the Community Organizers of the Phillapenes, who must be legion. Ah, but unilateristic actions always ignore the obvious squaks of the public. At the peril of world peace we proceed. The Chinese are allowing some within their midst to ignore that the cooperation that Socialist nations are supposed to dream of . . . and for which they brainwash generation after generation of their own . . . to accomplish the single dominance . . . of what is right. I put it in their terms here, people. I am not an SI booster. But usually they can be approached and are reasonable and actually give-a-hoot (use a less hoaky word then 'hoot') about stuff, and other people.

The problems with Socialism is that the demand for total surrender of self to the ideals of 'the best' are often usurbed by the power-mad who do arrise. The reason that these power mad folks are a guarnatee is because the flaw in the Human character, our universal 'sin', so to speak (to put it in terms that many find antique) is that we do like to be in charge. And we are always fearful when willful people will not allow for our Liberty.

So the Chinese have to deal with the estreme megalomanical nature of the way that this flaw carries forward within the many Han who are there at the place of power. They forget that the tradition of strenght means that you aren't supposed to use it against the people. Will-nilly goes the way. Deep are the ruts. Let the cart run within deep ruts. Too-and-fro goes the way. Perseverence brings good fortune.

If you study ancient Chinese philosophies you might get confused and think that its a pallor game. But it brings good fortune to study the truths locked up within books such as Lao Tzu's The Way of Life or Atman's I Ching (there is no one named Atman, no one really knows who wrote, or collected, the Book of Changes or the I Ching). These are difficult times when the 'superior man' or the nature to do the better, the Will of Heaven, is run-over by 'inferior man' of the nature to do the worse, counter to the Will of Heaven. The I Ching gives all kinds of advice. It never involves full scale war. It's never about destroying other people, other cultures. It is always life affirming and allowing for people to work things out.

There is this sterotype of rage that some project concerning the forces of upset people who do not want to work together anymore. The nations that tie their ecconomies together need to keep it that way, or let it loose. Which ever but . . . there ought not to be a war. This retrograde return to the Phillapines is something that ought to be looked at hard, why not have the Chinese there too? That way we can all get to know each other? Let's just move in and run it? Most of it is probably horrible jungle and just not suited for either proper Han or proper Brits, or whoever is in the delusion of rulership. Most Chinese people probably aren't even aware of the escallations. Most Americans, too, not aware. There is a stranded ship on an atoll and that is called the western border of the Philapenes. Why can't all parties just agree to wait? Leave it be for a hundred years, in the name of peace. Let someone go in and remove that errent ship, it's a hazard in one sense. Serves as a light house, I am sure, in another sense. Maybe just let sailing vessels into the area, give it over to people of the sea, like they do in the Andiman and Nicobar Islands.

The situation is screwed up and the idea that it can just happen, wave of the hand, and we are on the hook once again to do something that we, quite frankly, shouldn't have to do, the malefescence of administrative neglect, the violations of law, and the unilateral edicts result in mistrust and in the tendency for the retrograde, the harmful, the inferior aspects to supercede what we all really know and want: that this is the Rodium age. War is and ought to be deprecated. It has no effect in changing the course of events and is merely a sick 'serve-em-up' side show for the power. This is something that both Lao Tzu and Jesus would agree on: War is beat and ought not to happen anymore.

Alright enough with my rant.

Wake up and pray for peace.

There opce was a senator deep and in the tank
Who learned long ago to be a jerk and to pull rank

He said get up on the bus, the the tortoise to the bank.

What the newbie managers did say.
And soon they will be out the revolving door.

August Tomatoes

In the back yard!

It's August. People are harvasting their tomatoes. Other people don't have any tomatoes. The chipmunks will eat every single one while it's still very tiny. You need a fortified and fenced in garden.

Somethings never change
nothing need stay the same
ah, but on a website
the constant change
 is kind-of the point . . .

change without continuity and tradition is often very hard to manage for those thrust into it. And thus the frame of things gives a place for the change to happen. If you violate that idea then you are coming up with something completely different and maybe no one will want to see your new idea, or use your great, new venue, because it's too far out, and very far away from what they currently care about. It's a nether or a meta and it's merely for a lark? Or does it become the next big thing? As fun as graphics are (CGI) and animation, and making a world to fly around in (like minetest, which is easy when you learn how) ultimately such a meta is a hollow place. It's a distraction during the season of gaming. It allows one to brush up on geometry and math, and architectural design, it gives people training in computer languages, it allows someone to make some graphical ideas, and pass a few hours of time every few days or so . . .

To live within such a realm really isn't possible.

Poem Shards

just who reads, who writes these poems?
off a mountain road the poet roams
but only in a poem.

Realizing that the empty
is empty
and not needing anything there.

just who shows up and for what?
I'm lonely or am alone or what does it matter?
driving off towards the nothing
walking along the nowhere path
up high
sure, it's a pretty view
but seen it, done it, jaded, back to the air port
he flew
his fantasy of happy vacation was through.

Coders Edge

served to you by:

Fedora 40

After 40 different versions what can one say about it anymore? It's installed in all my systems, a day earlier. There are a few minor issues, but no show stoppers.

I did some stuff with lvm to resize a root area. That took a very long time. It's on a machine that maybe just should be retired . . .

Fedora Core 38 beta

Ya, I decided to load Fedora Core 38 Beta about a month ago, and this machine kept shutting down . . . I think I finally fixed it. Tomorrow is the big release day for the Fedora Core 38. My production workstation is still running FC37. I don't know if I'll jump right on it right away. . .

my server is still resetting, or maybe I have it fixed. I decided to just remove plasma-desktop, as I don't use it. The journals were giving all kinds of errors with that, and I think that might have been the issue, conflicting with the gdm that I do use. Worst case I'd just go to runlevel 3 but, as I said in another column, I don't really even know if anyone views these pages anyway.

My production box would upgrade but the dnf says it would downgrade grum and associated tools, and that's never a good thing to do. I'm just not going to do it! anyway I'll check tomorrow when the offical release is and probably do it then. If I'm in the mood.

So now I've run every version of Fedora serving this website! that's a long time.

here is from a year ago:

Fedora Core 36 beta

It took some time to figure out how to defeat the new screensaver built in, but I was able to. It's the biggest downside to the new Gnome.

I set the keybindings to something I don't use, and then put in a custom keybinding to use the old tool.

There are other minor things that annoy too, like the restoration of a deleted file that I always have to delete again on every FC core upgrade. The file is name camera-shutte.oga. It's in /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo

At the precipice of coding.

a mountain trail often has a place with a great view and a perilous fall if you wonder just a bit too far to one side of the trail. It's called a precipice. It's not a scary place. It's a safe place that one passes through.

OK, so I've done an update to FC34.

the biggest issue was . . . . drum roll . . .a lock up of gnome.

and if i clicked on the activities button I would need to reload (log out log back in).

I was able to run stuff without that, and thus determined a list of files that might need to be removed. I did as full reinstall of gnome as such:

dnf reinstall gnome

then I did a

dnf list installed |grep fc33

which gave me a list of files to consider uninstalling.

from that I got the following:

first odd issue:

sudo was not at first working! I had to install it! I kept the configuration file so I have my preferences still set up.

dnf install sudo dnf reinstall gnome-* dnf reinstall kde* dnf reinstall NetworkManager* dnf remove gnome-screensaver dnf remove gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-20.04.0-2.fc33.noarch dnf remove xorg-x11-xkb-extras-7.7-33.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove compat-openssl10-1:1.0.2o-11.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove mozjs60-60.9.0-7.fc33.x86_64

there are still some fc33 packages, (I also looked for fc32 packages, anything older that was gnome)

sudo dnf list installed |grep fc33
biber.noarch 2.14-4.fc33 @fedora
gamin.x86_64 0.1.10-37.fc33 @fedora
libgta.x86_64 1.0.9-5.fc33 @fedora

if removing a package also removed large numbers of other packages, I left it. For each of the few that I did remove, I always would make sure by reading what would happen before agreeing to the transaction.

now the gnome-shell is working and it doesn't lock up. So which of the packages that I removed made the difference? I am not sure.

and so after just a few short hours of install, I've got my system working in away that seems normal.

the new gnome shell moves the icons to the bottom of the screen.

I find gnome-shell to be annoyingly poppy at times. I tend to do things rapidly, and all the popping can be nauseating.

It is helpful to learn how to use dnf. I've found that the reverse history stuff works as long as you haven't made too many changes. It's a dicey, though, to try and go back to an older revision but I did it ONCE. Next time it didn't work out so well. AT that point it was installing dnf and yum from rpms.

and I had success. It's the kind of thing that when you know how to do it . . .

but there was one other trick that I needed and it was a scary way to reset a password and I did discover how to do it. I'm not sharing that one (barely remember) it's like these things exist in a nether, and it's best to . . . let the knowledge fade unless you need it. It's too scary to dwell in that space.

anyway, gnome shell is working. It's not flighty and hanging up. And all it took was to remove the old packages of gnome that might conflict with it. And now I can continue with my review.
