Crawl Space activity

Insulation

I don't like the crawl space place but I could store books there that I will never need to read but if I want to read then they will be in the crawl space out of reach not easily usable. So I'm going to insulate that space. I've thought a long time about how to do it. It will be in small increments that I do the work. First I'm putting in styrofoam venting ducts. Next it will be using pieces of styrofoam to end cap the ceiling rafters as they butt against the edge of the roof. I figure that I'll think about it some more. However, I believe that next I want to insulate the inner walls. I didn't think I would, but it isn't that much more work to get a better seal on the rooms. I am hoping to get a good increase in effciency. I don't like to have a cold house or a hot house. I like it middle. I've got the masks. I've got the ear protectors for when I use the shop vac. I've got plastic bags to fill up with old material. It all needs to go into the trash. I double wrap the stuff and dispose of it legaly. What is the verdict on if it is better to just leave in the old crudy insulation? I say that it is best to remove the old if it is black with mold. You can't get it all. It's stuck up and in the walls. It isn't really mold, but age. There were two separate types on insulation in the walls. I don't believe the old insulation does much good. It's going away. I'll bag it and dispose of it. And have it out of my life like those old fines that people forget to pay, they gotta pay them eventually or else it adds up over time. But if you don't know about them? April 13, 2010
