Brian Wilson

Will be at the Flynn

June 14, 2015

Brian Wilson and his Band will be at the Flynn Theatre in beautiful Burlington on June 14, 2015! How cool is that?

I was watching The Big Bang Theory and Brian's Song was on it. Sheldon had the song in his head. I was listening and figured it was probably Marcella, a Brian Wilson song. It turned out it was Darlin', a love song. Pretty Cool. So I navigated to Brian's site and noticed that he has three shows listed and one of them is, and this is so awesome, at the Flynn. Why is this so awesome? Because that was a theater that I used to go to as a child to see movies. I saw Alien there. I saw Patton there. I saw Airport there. And I am sure a lot of other films too.

The Flynn was saved from destruction. After that it became a venue. Right up the street from there is another important Burlington venue, Nectors. Nectors is famous for very many reasons. I saw Phish there on a few occasions the 1980s before they hit it big. Burlington was much different but Nectors has stayed very much the same.

Burlington has a lot to offer. The Flynn will be an awesome place to see Brian Wilson and his band. You get an amazing view of a giant lake if you just go and stand on the street there, in front of The Flynn, or for many different locations in Burlington, and Vermont too.

Right near by the Flynn is a ferry that goes back and forth to New York. If you go to Burlington the passenger fee round trip on the ferry is not a lot of money, and worth the trip just to have an excursion crossing Lake Champlain and back. There is another ferry in North Hero that is a shorter ride. I recommend these as excursions.

When travelling through Vermont don't forget to pull over and walk around. I recommend going through Smuggler's Notch. Though Brian's Bus might have a hard time getting through that, if it were possible, maybe he would go that way. The road has a lot of switch back, but it's not much more difficult than the roads through Big Sur. So plan accordingly.

Last summer I saw Neil Young at the Champlain Valley Fair Grounds. Brian would get a good reception there, too.

update:very awesome I was able to get a seat very close to the stage! Looking forward to it. I guess it's going to be the whole Pet Sounds album . . .

I'm going to try and go to this show. Maybe I'll see you there. Maybe you'll see Eddie Kane.

Ticketts go on sale tomorrow!, Dec 11 at 10AM. Go to flynntix.org for tickets.

places worth going to:

Who is Eddie Kane? He is a young man from Natick who also is a performer who I met at the Brian show in Boston last August. He was with his wife/girlfriend and was plotting on how he could meet Brian. I told him he could pay for the meet and greet!

Here is Brian: Mr. Brian Wilson, Oct 2014. This image is of him seated at his piano during a recent show. The image around his as been modified with visual effects to give it a more surreal flavor, to make it almost neon, or electric. The part where Mr. Wilson is, was cropped, and his image was provided in a format that didn't use the same effects as his surroundings. The part of this image that is of Brian is not modified with visual effects. Image provided as a news photo for fans of the man. phone frame at a show © 2015 copyright © Copyright © 2015

These guys gave a great show!

Mark Steyn was a witness at hearings on Capital Hill. He got rave reviews! Yay for Mark!

The song "Beyond the Sea" is from the original "Le Mer", by Charles Trenet. When Michael Savage discussed the song a caller on his show said that song, in some interpretations, concerns the death of a lover or spouse. To me the song seemed to be about soldiers and sailors and waves and wacks who were deployed during war time, and were worlds away from each other. I read about the various interpretations of what the song means. "Le Mar" is, of course, the orginal French version, and that seems to have no sense of loss of love, but is instead a song of whimsy concerning the sea and its beauty.

the idea is that the words go here we'll over lay the words, my dear It'll all look cool, so have no fear.

Way cool! The above is starting to look a tiny bit like sheet music, which has been a long term plan of mine. Nice! The notes are too small! I'll need a new style for that, easy. By the time this is posted it should all be more correct.

above is just random, and I mean random, notes and is not a melody that I know, or any kind of song. I just pasted unicode music to see how it will look when I open the page. Kind of curious . . . "

using the styles of {position :fixed; display: block;} we can set the left and top to 0px, and then we get the effect that the musical notes appear at the top of the browser! I suppose I should have chosen position: relative, or something else. Anyway, it was kind of a startling effect, and I kindof really liked it. The bars didn't do what I wanted. And it covers over everything there, at the top of the page, so that non of the links work anymore, but it was a cool effect. I suppose the way to contain such a thing is to use the proper styles, but I did like the effect. And that, complete with the geuggification (gitter, or dapplery, dappery) that I do here, with 'callbacks' I could make some pretty pictures with unicode. Nice stuff. It needs to be contained in a div, and I let it loose on the page . . .

It was late when I did this, so I left it that way over night to remind myself to get back to it later. It's kind of necessary to make the correct style, or I screw up the page for all of the other content. CSS can be such a beach (during a rainstorm, with dangerous riptides.) But it's a happy beach if you know the secrets, and they are. That is why my site has so many demonstration programs: so that people have a baseline from which to expand and make some real art with it.
