Advent

I usually dude-it-up at Christmas here at my website. I've got some stock things that I can just 'turn on'. Usually the theme is Christmas, angels, lambs, seal in Glochester, Christmas in the whole wide world.

Lights are wonderful but expensive in implementation. Over the years they have become more efficient. That's good becuase in a dark place, when the sun sets early, in Winter, at Christmas, the lights really help and jolly it up a bit. Ya they do.

There is a new kind of light, that I've heard about, and it's supposed to be even more efficeint and you don't have to string wire! Of course if you live here in New England you probably have seen the commercials for it this season. What it is is ("what it is is" I attribute to Martin Lawerance, a very funny man) . What it is is a projector with some kind of laser element that projects the lights upon the surrounding environs. Well, it might freak out the wood peakers (which is fine with me). And maybe the squirils might not like it. Or passing heliocoptor? But I have two giant trees in my back yard which are so big that they are impractical to use for lights for people of modest means. and I'm thinking, maybe ya, maybe. How much can it cost? And my 120 foot spruces will be giant Christmas Trees. Horray and Praise the Lord (for Him is the season, for us, too, Him coming to visit for some 36 (33? 39?) years back 2000 years ago.

If I do it there will surely be pictures here. And maybe even a video (I'm not promising anything)

I went on line and saw some videos comparing the various types of lights available. Clearly one brand is much better than the other. Also one of the videos showed how the lights were safe. In one of them the man had a light meter and tried to get a reading to find the watts-per-meter-squared, or whatever the power measurement was for the light, to determine if the devices were, indeed, safe. A logical mind and think of situations where it may be that such devices could produce a transient effect where the powerlevels spike at the location of an eyeball. That would involve multipath reflections of the laser light.

here is a link to the site where the good ones are: www.laserchristmaslights.com, but note that they are sold out for the holidays (Christmas, etc). Good for them! See, the economy isn't totally . . .

Here is Brian: Mr. Brian Wilson, Oct 2014. This image is of him seated at his piano during a recent show. The image around his as been modified with visual effects to give it a more surreal flavor, to make it almost neon, or electric. The part where Mr. Wilson is, was cropped, and his image was provided in a format that didn't use the same effects as his surroundings. The part of this image that is of Brian is not modified with visual effects. Image provided as a news photo for fans of the man. phone frame at a show © 2015 copyright © Copyright © 2015

These guys gave a great show!

podcast from Mark Steyn with really cool Cole Porter. Steyn is not a Pop guy, and he seems clueless about Rock-n-Roll, but he clearly has an encyclopedic knowledge of Cole Porter's era. Like if you search his site for 'Dovels' or 'Brian Wilson' you'll find only people commenting on how he totally ignores Brian's accomplishments.

I feel bad for Mark because he's dealing with a sword of Damacles like law suit. So he's making cutsie songs about cats, which is just so "meow". I am sure that he has an audience.

He lives in Central New Hampshire, near the upper valley, which has, on occasion, been my stomping ground. I know my way around, let's just say. Like where the Crystal Quartz is. You know, New Hampshire used to be a chain of volcanoes, and those created what is called pegmatite. It's common in New Hampshire. You have to know where it is, and when you do . . . well, it's an exciting thing. You find large crystals of very many different types of minerals. Those will be abundant. But if you don't know where it is you might not ever know how common some of those minerals are..

Also New Hampshire and Vermont (you have to think of them in the same breath if you are an Upper Valley person) have a lot of old and abandoned mills. Mark Styen's "I thought I saw a puddy cat" was filmed in such a spot. As a matter of fact his video looks like it was shot at an abandoned mill in Lebanon NH some few score miles from where he lives and it made me wonder does he know the place? Would he make a video there? But it could have been anywhere . . .

New Hampshire is a very friendly place. And this is the season of the crazys there (political people in droves for the next two, or so months). If you don't know how close Massachusetts and New Hampshire are, then you might not understand how these places are married to each other. When you are at the border it's just forest or road, and just a sign that says 'Entering Wherever'.

I'm rooting for you, Mark! Win your law suit!

I hope you review Smile some time. Or, better, review Beach Boys Love You. I think you'd also like Brian's version of 'Deep Purple'. I think that was from the unreleased Adult Child album.

Mark's podcasts are awesome because he includes the music within the discussion.! I've always loved Cole Porter since I first heard about him. And it's an awesome tie in to Princess Grace and other famous people (I've done too much name dropping already). I suppose it must help Mark to keep up with the totally non-political reviews, and music production. He's doing battle in court in DC with some . . . I had unkind thoughts when I thought of the word to call those litigious who are nonsense suing Mr. Steyn. They don't deserve a mention. The sport of the well-healed power mad delusional friends of the dot-org mob: sue the bright and the articulate for daring to be the best at exposing the frauds of this world. Don't get me wrong, I have a strong understanding of the damage that man could do. I just don't buy that 'fossil' fuels are always the worst choice. When you study thermaldynamics, as I did as an engineer, and you study power generation, as I did as an electrical engineer, both turbines and solar cells, and their efficiencies, and battery power as well. I am an expert in these things. And so I understand the sometimes the best choice is fuel. Batteries don't cut it when it's 30 below. Also electric cars are a far less efficient use of power. However, when there is the possibility of smog, like in parts of Los Angeles, a grid for electric cars might actually be a good idea. But these things shouldn't be decided by the richest just because they have monopolies on the 'alternative' power distribution systems that they want to force feed to the world. And so, since intellegent people, engineers and scientists understand the hypocracy of the people who really just want monopolies on products (as it seems to us) then . . . well . . . it seems like this . . . becase we know that if it's Winter in the hills of New Hampshire you just gotta hate having to pay for the electric heat. It's the least affordible way to heat. Wood is good for heating. As a matter of fact, that's one of the main deals in New Hampshire: people heat with wood. They also generate electricity from burnung wood. And the places that they clear to do this quickly reforest. It's a sustainible economy which is why New Hampshire rocks so hard.

Living in a marshmellow whirl . . .

The song "Beyond the Sea" is from the original "Le Mer", by Charles Trenet. When Michael Savage discussed the song a caller on his show said that song, in some interpretations, concerns the death of a lover or spouse. To me the song seemed to be about soldiers and sailors and waves and wacks who were deployed during war time, and were worlds away from each other. I read about the various interpretations of what the song means. "Le Mar" is, of course, the orginal French version, and that seems to have no sense of loss of love, but is instead a song of whimsy concerning the sea and its beauty.

the idea is that the words go here we'll over lay the words, my dear It'll all look cool, so have no fear.

Way cool! The above is starting to look a tiny bit like sheet music, which has been a long term plan of mine. Nice! The notes are too small! I'll need a new style for that, easy. By the time this is posted it should all be more correct.

above is just random, and I mean random, notes and is not a melody that I know, or any kind of song. I just pasted unicode music to see how it will look when I open the page. Kind of curious . . . "

using the styles of {position :fixed; display: block;} we can set the left and top to 0px, and then we get the effect that the musical notes appear at the top of the browser! I suppose I should have chosen position: relative, or something else. Anyway, it was kind of a startling effect, and I kindof really liked it. The bars didn't do what I wanted. And it covers over everything there, at the top of the page, so that non of the links work anymore, but it was a cool effect. I suppose the way to contain such a thing is to use the proper styles, but I did like the effect. And that, complete with the geuggification (gitter, or dapplery, dappery) that I do here, with 'callbacks' I could make some pretty pictures with unicode. Nice stuff. It needs to be contained in a div, and I let it loose on the page . . .

It was late when I did this, so I left it that way over night to remind myself to get back to it later. It's kind of necessary to make the correct style, or I screw up the page for all of the other content. CSS can be such a beach (during a rainstorm, with dangerous riptides.) But it's a happy beach if you know the secrets, and they are. That is why my site has so many demonstration programs: so that people have a baseline from which to expand and make some real art with it.
