the bad break up with someone who you were never really friends with in the first place. First he was too over the top and now he's too far in the other direction. Who is it really that needs to modify? the one who gets obsessed like that.

The person does not look at himself as obsessed, but instead blames someone he doesn't even really know for his obsessive behaviors. The fame-seeker blames the object of his obsession for the problem of fame-seeker having this obsession and instead of getting mad at himself gets mad at the object of his obsession, when, in fact, they don't even know each other and have never even met.
