The Left Column

Politics for Poets

Nolympics

in Boston

I've been down on the Olympics for quite a long while now. It's been some years, at least since the 1980's. I'm not down on the Special Olympics. It brings so much joy to people.

And so what is it that got me down about the Olympics? I guess that it was such a phony balony sporting event which really is just a giant yummery for powerful people. But really it was the way that money had taken over the sports. And it was not a fun deal anymore for locals. It became a manifestation of a virtual state of tyranny for the local populations. It was a way for people with very large foot-print lifestyles (large foot print: meaning that these folks are always a-yumming it up at the government troff). The Olympics became representative of the 'stomp on the little guy for the sake of the powerful' fetish that (some) in power, (dare I say "corrupt power") enjoy: collecting tokens of power through the eminance of their domain within the public realms. Instead of The Olympics being about athletes, who do enjoy it and benefit from it, the Olympics became a festival for beating on your chest (this is an allegory) and displays of dominance (people who say "I own this town" kind of people, can you imagine it?) and submission. The submissives? Are those in unions and government, institutions or accademea, or others who get to the position in the usual way, by negotiating their position with the domminance games of power politics (where taboo behaviors often used as a way to pull off a silent coup d'etate).

And so the behind the secenes deal with the self-enrichment and self-dealing is an ugly display of Machievellian politics. It exposes the raw and forced nature of the political game. Activities are allegorical to . . . and the public is supposed to just sucker-it-up and let themselves be violated by a steady and constant drip drip drip of public resources towards the dominance-and-submission bit-players within the 'do you know who I am' play of a King Leer nature. They are all good guys, don't you know. You'll love them one on one. A gay lothario? He turns even the most resistent politician into his cubby-love-chub.

So, well, ya, the Olympics. Here is my suggestion. It needs to be divested. It ought to become something different. It needs to have parts and pieces. It needs new management. It should loose it's tax-exemptness. It ought to be divested of profits for the powerful. It shouldn't be allowed to let it go on as being a grotesque display of power politics.

And during a period of invasion, when things are so dire in other places that millions flee for their lives and risk death by drowning to get to Europe and America, could we not, as societies, do better than the constant hum of the yum from the yummery of excess which such 'events' represent? And the fact of the dominance and submission nature of the politics involved. It's a good thing that they didn't have anything on Marty or Gov Baker (two who were skeptics of the plans of the Olymics 2024) or else those two might have gone the other way and, well it would have been political suicide. But if someone really owns the town? But I thought we were a democracy? I guess that they didn't cover that in all the schools.

So, at least, we are reminded of the grim legacy of corrupt king-layers who claim to hedgemony over the politics of a town or region. Bombast doesn't go over well in politics.

Open up your door
or I won't come back no more,
 and you'll be sad.
 to see me go.
 Open up your door
or I won't come back no more,
 I'll wonder off.
 into the blizzards of snow.

What they claim is good
 for 'the environment'
   really sucks
    for the forest.

how hard is it to use these new symbols in your stuff? Well, first you need to know that they exist. Second, you can just cut and paste them.

I've got a message for . . . Mr Bash (an alias for someone else). Mr Bash, if I use brace expansion with the dot-dot idiom, ie like this:

echo -e {🌃..🌅}{🌍..🌏}{🌑..🌚}" "

why does that not work when

echo -e {🌃,🌄,🌅}{🌍,🌎,🌏}{🌑,🌒,🌓,🌔,🌕,🌖,🌗,🌘,🌙,🌚}" "

 this outputs a little easier:
 echo -e {🌃,🌄,🌅}{🌍,🌎,🌏}{🌑,🌒,🌓,🌔,🌕,🌖,🌗,🌘,🌙,🌚}" "|fmt -w 45

in order to find symbols that you don't have
yet, you can input the code into the echo command
with the hex number of the symbol.
There is a way to echo out blocks of code.
If you try and echo out a million characters you will
experience . . . issues with performance.

Also: unless you have the fonts that define these you
don't see the pretty characters.

here is an image that shows you the output
that I see from the echo on my system:

alright, then, with that, I can do something
creative (as I have done before, see the message column)
with my output.

if you don't have proper fonts installed you won't see what this picture shows: the output of the echo command with unicode symbols as input. If you are blind basically the unicode are symbols that you could feel as shapes. If you have a 'font box', which would be like that divice with all the pins in it that you can place your hand inside, and the shape of your hand will appear on the surface. If such a thing locked, it would then let a blind person feel it and they would feel the shape. such a device that does that for font shapes would greatly aid the blind. It would be a 'kind of' high resolution new-braille. Call it a 'sean-box' font reader.

will? Maybe I've not ordered the elements properly. Well that little snippit doesn't work that well but t

Here is today's pretty poem:

 Don't we know
  who you are?
    I think we know
      who you are.
We do.

well . . .

May you always love the snarky know-it-all.

Especially when they are at their most annoying, and dead wrong on the subject.

Sychophancy is so pathetic: the hacker army.

there is no hacker arm mee.
this site, while describing things
such as super cush honey paught
(don't you love me, my babe babe eee)
does not in fact employ such devices.
the poem 'honey paught' actually serves as a warning
concerning other sites. This non commercial site
does not seek to threaten or to oppose anyone excpet that they
are met with the force of the back-at-cha where all your crap
gets flung right back at you.
Honey pots are a real deal thing and probably explain why some
things that seem so f-d up are the way that they are.
People are never as stupid as they seem in the press.
Never as vile and immoral as they come off in the papers, never
as mean as their public persona.

so be nice.
even to those who you think are politically out-of-control.
"do good for those who hate you."

  Praise God!
