There was a guy on the television talking about yesterday's death plane from Spain. Guess that a sudden decompression will result in such a thing. 8 minutes of hell. And when the failure happens the plane is stuck in an autopiolet mode. So the controllers, etc, could know that it was all happening before it really does.

Paine Stewart's plane was small enough to fit inside of a C130 sized plane, is my quess. Or such a 'plane scooping plane' could exist, at least on paper (or in data-bases) if not in the sky, where it would be saving lives. Imagine that: sudden decompression, and then, zooooooming in from Angel Central: a mega plane that scoops up the distressed plane, communicates with the control system, and then 'catches' our lame bird, saving everyone on board.

Why not? It's better than what we spend the money on now: robots that take all the jobs and bombs that should never be blown up anyway.

Well, it could be drawn in comic book form. And those in the sky-risers, those who put themselves up there both in elevation and in debt (because that is usually what you need to do to get to that high-rise place), why don't they believe in comic books anymore? The rest of us dream and say 'ya, this is reasonable.

Survive and create and make the world less mean.

Payne Stewart died probably long before his plane crashed. It's sad to have someone awesome's name associated with an engineering design flaw. What was Payne's deal? Who loved him? He was a golfer, from what I skimmed. I bet he had awesome shoulders and arms. He was probably someone who made people happy just when he was around, a well fed and talented dude who knew when there should be a party and when you had to go practice, make it better, better day, better world.

I've fictionalized him. I tend to do that, being, at heart, a fiction writer. In any case, it sucks that we all suspect what we suspect concerning that plane. It is, perhaps, an engineering flaw. But what would make a plane loose compression like that? A breach in the hull of it (I'm using a term that is applied to ships. A plane like the one that fell yesterday is an 'air-ship'.

What must it have been like in World War II? Hundreds of planes were lost over short periods. And there were 'telegrams', which was a visit from someone who worked from the telegraph company. Maybe they'd send some honor guards? It's not something that a lot of people want to remember, that visit that says 'Your loved one is not OK.'

Now we can hear about it through the Internet long before the world even notes it. You can know that something's wrong because the well-timed behaviors of your loved one in social media cease. You can know because someone will have filmed the crash and posted it, and it goes viral and you see the . . . crash almost as soon as it happens, and long before the formal process of post-crash analysis begins.

Sad day.
