words not to use to call someone

nub at the Urban Dictionary.

The term 'nub', I guess is a thing for some people. They go on about it at the provided link.

'call someone', advice to 'not call someone something.'

calling someone something means that you place a label on them in the dialectic, to allow for an expression of passing feelings towards another. The fact of it is that you can't know that other as well as you know yourself. And what you 'see' in them exists within your mind, first, and then, if you call them that, you put that thought out into the world. 'put that thought out into the world': give everyone who listens in on you the idea that you have about this other person.

If you use a word that defames, then the person might feel put-upon. If they feel put-upon they might get depressed. If they get depressed, they will withdraw. It might not be obvious because they will go into hiding and you won't see them. They will secretly hate you for casting them (now I am making up a story) into a hell-of-sorts of your creation by saying things . . .

You were just sayin'? Well, watch what you're saying. You don't go shooting off into traffic against a light in heavy traffic, and you only would if it were safe and there were some damn good reason. (damn-good-reason: a righteous cause. This is not stuff you tell an officer of the law in response for an explanation that they would like.)

In any case, we have laws about driving a car. And so we could also have laws about what people say.

We do, in a sense. But they are happy laws. It's just 'theory of jerk'. We all learn it. We all don't call it that. We might just mock someone who is going on about his 'theory of jerk'. We might start doing some pejoratating, playing to the crowd of demons that infests our thoughts, the urges that lead us into darkness gleefully 'just saying'. Har har har, all the way to hell and gone.

And anyone who talks about this would be scoffed at, jeered at by some. They want to watch their gleeful dancing thoughts prance on over everyone around them. They get gleeful joy from their poison effect of spreding misinformation. It gives them a sense of power and accomplishment to utterly 'put in their place' those who are obviously lesser. But this is not successful behavior. The world just puts up with people like that. I am one of them, so I know all about it. I was like that for years before it finally came upon me that I didn't have to be a judgemental prick. It was put to me (put to me: tell someone something that they need to hear bluntly) by a friend (who might not say that we are) by him asking 'where do you come off?'. Listen, if you are 'coming off' as something, then I'm guessing that maybe you've been pejoratating.

I had used a phrase that was judging him, just by the choice of words. He had a quick way of indicating with linguistic precision, and with the attitude of an enlightened Don (a Sicilian prince) about how I was being . . . one who has no right to say how he is being. He mocked me and instantly I was aware. That was a case when it benefited me to be put into the shower of the very same ridiculous state of mind that I was carrying around with me. I left it there, moved forward, did not return to dwell in that way.

From the shock of introspection you might just see how horrible you come off. So, whatever happens, I suppose the real effect is that one shouldn't come off as anything. Prefer benignity. Say not, judge not. And unless provoked save your pronouncements about other people's behavior. Even then try and hold your tongue.

So if someone needs to use the word 'nub' as a pejorative, then that person doesn't see that he is coming off as . . . [part that we don't need to fill in]. Just the fact of his (her or ?) use of the word puts him (her or ?) into a spot light. "Here I am, I use the word 'nub' when talking about people who, actually, I could treat better by not labeling them with libelous nonsense that sums them up in a small utterance with derision."

I found it interesting that many of the definitions within that Urban Dictionary page, above linked, had parts which were commentary on the use of the word 'nub'. Authors of those definitions described how they felt about the ones who would use such a word to publicly describe their fellows. And some of the definitions seemed to be (but this might not actually be) as if written by someone who does use the word. The problem with a site like Urban Dictionary is . . .

Many people who input into such sites are writers. All writers dabble in fiction. That means that these writers can 'get into the head' of fictional characters. And so the definitions that seem to be from those who would actually use the word 'nub' as a pejorative, could just be written as if by the fictional character as imagined by an author who, actually, would never use the word like that.

This brings me all the way around the world and back to one of my main points, the main point of this blog a lot of the time, (or at least something that I regularly go off on): Most, if not all, of the 'people' or personality types that you think you are encountering on the Internet, those 'folks' off in cyber space that put that mean and nasty into all of the comments section: most of that is process or active FUD. If it is process, it is programmed content input processes, what are known a 'servers'. There may, in fact, be actual FUD servers with 'intelligent' processes that are designed to fill up the comments sections with base and trite FUD.

I have termed this before as 'Dork Ops'.
