Seasons of joy need not be just at Christmas.
First Night
My friend accused me of being a beast on First Night, walking on the wrong side of the flow, knocking off little children's hats. Bill-walking. I'm very tall and can walk very fast. We walked 5 and a half miles there and back. Then we had to go back on the trolly. My friend had made friends with the guy who runs Little Stevies on Beacon Street. Nice guy. Good pizza. We had walked all the way to the Aquarium, missed the early fireworks. Then walked back to Boylston Street near Berkley (At Mass Ave). It was 8:45. I suggested we rest for a while. My friend when out on a mission. Cigarettes or beer. We'd already had some drinks in the bar. Driver designated and wanted to leave. I suggested we rest. so we did. We were in the driver's car resting for two hours and a big menacing cop came striding down the street looking into all the cars and paused very shortly and looked us over as we lay there waiting for midnight. We weren't doing anything wrong. He was looking for open drinking. We weren't doing that. This was an older guy, maybe 63, looked angry. I was shagged from the long walk at that point. Freind was off on his mission. Driver was accentuating the negative for which I admonished him. Later my friend wigged out on the crowd at the Government Center T stop. This was after the fireworks. He'd threatened to go walking off into the city. We wouldn't have left him there. We had to go back out of the trolly station and go find him out on Tremont Street. Then when people wouldn't let some other folks off of the train I was all 'Let us through or we're pushing you off of the train' which seems menacing now that I look back on it. Maybe not sounding very friendly. At least the trains were free. They got out of our way and let us off of the train. We made it home late, Driver babbling so as not to fall asleep. He doesn't drink. He was just tired.Entrance to the Sturbridge Town Hall, Dec 2006
