how do I even know if anyone even sees these pages? I suppose that's why I stopped updating them

And did he ever even get to that part about 'helmet safety' and that the guy in the photo wasn't wearing one?

Oh, no, yet another topic for the echo factory to pretend that people care about and repeat over and over.

 this is a lot more
             fun
         than wading
         in through the chan spam.

if you don't have proper fonts installed you won't see what this picture shows: the output of the echo command with unicode symbols as input. If you are blind basically the unicode are symbols that you could feel as shapes. If you have a 'font box', which would be like that divice with all the pins in it that you can place your hand inside, and the shape of your hand will appear on the surface. If such a thing locked, it would then let a blind person feel it and they would feel the shape. such a device that does that for font shapes would greatly aid the blind. It would be a 'kind of' high resolution new-braille. Call it a 'sean-box' font reader.

It's Springtime but chilly

We got a lot of rain the last two months, and that's fine because it wasn't snow!

Winter seems to have passed

A lot can happen in a year. I used to update these pages all the time. Maybe I could start doing that again?

Today was the day of setting the clocks forward.

Winter 2024

I would go back to work if I had an offer.

No one who contacts me about work seems to provide any serious prospects, like they are just hazing me..

Avoiding discord

The realization that much of what you find on line is just bots messing with people and trying to train them to be ineffective at debate by making them revert to insults, putdowns, and sub-human behavior makes social media seem to be a wasteland. It is best to not participate in that.

All the rain could have been snow!
2024!

Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord

for his unfailing love!

Political and Media Inanity
by Truck-u-later

Truck-u-later

in this column Truck-u-later steps in deeper . . .

well most news was about the raid a few weeks ago, I read up on what I could find.

I read up on it but I didn't try to spend too much time dwelling on it.

I wrote some things. But I can only observe these things. I wish not to be seen as being one who understands what it going on in the world these days. I try to learn what happens and try less to 'splain about the peeps involved. That whole 'It's them!' finger pointing is bogus and discordant to an eccumenical and open hearth world view.

And those who seek to live within a meta where they rule the world as a cartoon avatar persona . . . and do their pyramid scheme money-thang and their virtuality as if it's real . . . They do as they will and I have no say over their futures. So why do they pretend to have a say over mine?

The answer is: that if they live within a meta, then their rules are for them there. Outside of that, in the real world, those of us who aren't crazy with self-entitled ideation, and wealth beyond measure that enables us to put the equipment on, and all of it's tethering and attachments and live within that matrix world . . . all of us who do not wish to join them in what seems to be a depraved cult of wish fulfillment cooupled with a magical point of view about the fate of peoples and persons . . . all of us who have not gone crazy like that . . . you can't really expect us to let you carry on and try to rule us from within your cage of technology?

video gaming morphed into 'meta world creation' because the games were too depraved that had the cool world layouts that people like. The puzzles one loves to solve, and the cool graphics that one wants to see were those times interspersed with simulated acting out of depraved behaviors, like having to kill all the other characters in the scene before one moves on to the next level.

So at some point you trained yourself to not do it, to click through the depravity as if it's not there, and maybe miss a creepy backstory. I gave up playing those kinds of games, and I still ike to watch old replays, but I fast forward through the gun fight parts, the ghouls who hound Lara Croft in the end levels of, say Tomb Raider aniversary are tiresome and almost designed to make the players hate this kind of depravity in a game, as if the writers are telling their funders ;Really, a kill anything that seems alive simulation? Like clones could never be born without a need to kill everything else in the proximity from where it emerged? Well, we all know what happend to the Lora Croft franchise, and most video games.

But the graphics can be compelling and fun, so people still get some enjoyment out of it.

And those who think that they can rule from within a meta? they have the persona of the villianous ancient ghoul who haunts Laura through out here travels. Watch a walk through of tomb Raider Aniversary. Feel free to fast forward through the psychopathic parts. But do listen to the banter and the dialog. Spoiler alert: Laura has a lot of soul searching to do.

thankfully true.

We move along. We keep doing for ourselves. We survive. We don't let the world define who and what we are, or how we feel, or what any of this really means.

And if they have bad humor, and will not forgive they will hate you then.

but at least in that

They dont' always leave you alone. It seems they still sometimes want to connect to try to draw that cray cray narrative out one more time. And you have to explain that, no, sorry, this is a bit. You caught me while I was writing a character, that's not me. I am using tht as a dialog in a paly that I'm having my character write inside of his narrative, he's writing his own play about a guy writing a play.

It's like he feeds on it, I get bothered that he lets me go on with it.

MLK Day

2017

10:47 AM January 16, 2016

It's a shame that so many think that MLK day is a day about the story of Race in America. It's that, yes, but only partly that. It's also about the 60's. When Martin was killed it killed a lot of opportunity.

Years ago my friend moved to a part of Boston. My friend lived in the Neighborhood where Martin Luther King lived during his time in Boston. I don't know what that neighborhood was like in the 1950's when Martin lived there, but some few years ago those streets have a distinction which, easily seen may be obvious when you go there: the way that people inhabit the park, the moods of those who ask for help. . . And obvious drug activity. People in the throws of nodding out, sometimes calling out. entranced by the chemical effect. Sometimes, people there might be upset at anyone who happens by, lash out with venum and vitrol, and blame the world for being the world, for having to watch it through the agony of withdrawal. Bob Weir asked the question in a song: are we the victim or the crime? The activity is obvious, not prostitution but junky behavior, goes on there in that small park, and up and down the street for a few blocks around there.all about in the park, on the benches, at the corner. The police always riding by. Some of the people on the benches are in various locations of . . . mind as associated with various journeys of the conscious soul, between the nothingness of sanity and the eternity of insanity. Purposeful and without clear meaning, society leaves this problem for the future: what to do with that percentage of people who can not, and seem as if they won't ever, turn away from their favorite yum?

So, that's a real problem, on the streets of Boston, Massachusetts Avenue, south of Boylston, some might call it 'the Hospital district'. Maybe you know the name of a square that's near there. The real truth: any place that gets inhabited has part of the character of the inhabitants. So if you go to this square, on Massachusetts avenue, you will bring with you your own flavor and perhaps befriend the people, and the junkies on the street, and help them on their journey to redemption, because that is the story. Just up the street and around the corner, or behind these buildings (I'm imaigning my self there on Mass Avenue) there is a school, and a church. And if you show up on a Sunday morning you will not easily find a space during the service of that big and lound and boisterous congregation of chanting Baptists. To them this isn't junky central unless you are jonesing for Jesus. I turn this narrative into a trite cheerleading section for Christianiy? Might as well. that might even help the Junkies, if you all, reading this, think of them in sincere prayer.

So you can go on a freedom trail quest (future freedom trail extensions?) for the habitats of the Most Reverend Martin King (who could be declared, with special new methodologies of our first Jesuit pope a Saint in the Catholic Church, because he surely is in the minds of most people anyway, and on account of the way that he died (Children, it was kind of rank and horrible and when it happened I was too young to really know what was going down and what the bad possibilities were at that time, in those dark times of the 1960's.)

And even then it was a dark and sad time even though we were all enthralled with television and evening news and news readers, and that outraged sensibilities of the just-folks kind of announcer, with their shotgun psuedo-journalistic ambush 60-minutes format where people are made to look rediculous when warrentless accusations are presented as if it's not just entertainment. It was entertaining for a while untill the approach, itself, got a taint of being seen by many as mean and brutal, accusatory and slanted, and often with obvious color-of-cause (not rightgeious cause, but paid-for cause). And it was a brutal method to do journalism and didn't provide a reasonable and legal channel to mitigate the possible damage to real people's lives and businesses, reputations and rantings, as well as their ability to continue to procure work. But it made good television. For a while.

Ambush journalism. Shotgun politics. MLK died and then went straight to heaven, sanctified by those horid blasts.

Who? Why? We can wrangle over the details, try and comprehend. The conclusions, from that age? We don't hate them, they don't hate us, we are they, they are them, who are we all talking about? Let's not fight. It will be alright.

In Boston that night the mayor and James Brown did some mitigation of emotions, and people eased their grief in congregation at a concert by the King of Soul. So many town errupted into riots. But, people, children, everyone: it doesn' thave to happen. You don't have to meet horror with horror.

So, ya, today is MLK day. And the banks are closed. So is the town hall. And the Airbase and the Army Laboratoy. And there are peple out shopping, like it's a Saturday. What to do with their money?

and if you are in the city, and where the junkies are, exjunkies some of them. Yes, the problem persists. But for some it gets solved. Some people find a better way to proceed and overcome their addictions. Some fail at that and the addiction overcomes them. The world weeps. In the case of politics, as obcession, and that total unholy jones for cause, it often compels the addled to act out, to lasch out. It's a lust for an ideology, a jones for a cause. And that cause, even if it be tainted, becaomes a compulsion. someone morphes into a lone-wolf.

They have a plan. They are going to act. They see some cause, some purpose. some, such as Martin, becomes a fixation, as if the world is different when tht person . . . do I need to say?

People at that point of mind are loosing themselves in the tides of History. Nothing is ever accomplished through brutal methods. It is always a destruction and a desicration to other people to believe in cause so much as to do , or try to do, . . .

I leave things out. I'm channelling worse case conjecture. Today is a day to remember what happens when frustrated and impudent people try and effect change by being brutal and murdorous. Let it not happen again. Let it never happen again. Let anyone with that state of mind be popped into sudden awareness. The Junkie will be cured. You are that junkie. Your junk is cause. Some cause, whatever the cause. Make yours the better cause, that cause that we all know and some are more bold to say: Praise the Lord. Make Him your cause.

There is the idea of doing and failing to do. Some forms of not-doing are success. IN the case of the junkie, the not-doing of the junk is success.

Well being doesn't ever come from the external sources of news and politics. The world doesn't need operatives to effect posative change outside of the democratic traditions. Effect anything you want as long as you stay within the law. And stop looking for reasons to negate laws, on technicalities, to enforce some new regime and then try to put it at the same level as those trusted and tried traditions of democratic nations: Liberty, Freemdom, Justice, Equality.

To some that is just rethoric.

For the junkie in the park, who might some day make it out of there, out of that self-imposed exhile from being civil, maybe on their way back to . . . The Glass Factory. But that's a different issue.

Even if everyone gets helped, and all are successful at overcoming addiction, there always seems to be another addict right away to fill their bed. If you have friends and ears and read you alreayd know about the opium plauge. Some people don't get cured. They end up dead, overdosed.

Even without opioids people still get addicted. Some to having to have things be a certain way. And when the world is different, the world cares about some other concern, and the apocylypse doesn't happen the way the situation-junkie wanted it to happen, such a person, addicted to 'cause' and ideology, unable to chill out and go with the flow and get out of the way: sometimes it's not enough for them to just be out of the way, not to cause a problem. The election came out how they didn't like so they are going to protest?

I celebrate the right to protest, when the cause is just. To protest against an election based upon fake-new-monger crowd using their operant conditioning media-factory to farm out the discontent at the awesome selection of the people of our next president (who is going to do an excellent job).

I've said it over and over that Mr. Trump, our next president, has an insult comic's sensibilities for celebrity roast. And in his world the roast to him seems most joyous. It's a venue where you use your jesus-sword-mouth to cut to the bone and point out the obvious warts on other people's personalities and do it in a way that touchy people might find mean, but fully aware, and human, and loving-forgiving people often find such dead-on insult comic sudden-lightning awareness to be halarious, makes you roll over in glee at the honesty of it, so maybe, finally, our well lvoed friend, the subject of the barbarous and hilarious putdown, and being a conscious and bright light of his/her/? own truth: they don't take it lightly. It's an atomic bomb of snark and love, designed to kill your inner cry-baby-actavist and toughen you up for the real conflict, that might be coming later.

So here is the thing: it really is just words and ideas that Mr. Trump uses. As do the insult comics, some of whom seem to love Donald (for real) and celebrate how he celebrates others: not by molly-coddling, or by flatery, but through deep-impact asteroid collision concept about the nature of the personality flaw, in a way that makes the crowd roar. But you have the right, in such a venue, to back-at-cah with some snark and insight of your own. What you can't do is actually get physical, attack someone, start a riot, or real fist-to-cuffs.

All of you who hate Trump? What is fair game? Give him back what he gives: dead-nuts-on insight into the morbid and putrid methods of some within the political and social spheres. As far as being riotous?

An effective leader gives what he gets. As far as Trump goes, you can take him out of context or you can put him into context. In context, ya, some will see him as brutal. But right now he is about ready to be the general in charge, the George Washington of or generation. Trump went to the University of Pennsylvania for his business degree. His alma matta, founded by Benjamin Franklin, has always been a bastian of Liberalism: Classical Liberalism. And it's not the same thing as what some say is Liberal now. My point: Trump is more of a Benjamin Franklin than some villain of history.

If you go on youtube and watch some clips from roasts where Donald participated, you might find some insight in the joyousness that they express, meanwhile doing a hatchet job on the other person. But no real hatchets are used.

I've heard that 'bikers' will be doing some public ushering at the inaugaration. I'd like to go to it, but it seems like it's going to be a very large crowd, and it's a lot for a night in a hotel there. I got an email, purporting to be from the man himself inviting me to click through . . . to a page to get . . . drum roll . . . free inaugaration tickets. But I'd already investigated it, and I'd have to ask my Senators or congressperson for tickets. Maybe they'd have them but I decided, ya, no. I'll be here, in Massachusetts. A cold day in January in Washington DC? I like it in DC.

I like it in DC. I've been there a lot. I find it a very accessible tourist city. At least it was years ago. I had a very strange experience there during a snowstorm where I went through there, on a very snowy day. And even though there was no one there, all the spaces were for the handicapped, so there was no where to park.

If I were to go to DC on Friday, it's still a possibility, I don't need tickets for most of the activities. I've got no where to stay, no one to go and be with. I'd be all alone in the city on a day when it's really cold, with wind and rain as a possiblity, and a day when the sleaves are going to be rolled up and the pens will be out and all of them will be working: because it's work on what has been spoiled. So, ya, it will be a celebration, but it's also going to be some rock-n-roll. Rock-n-roll from the new President: working on what has been spoiled and draining the swamp.

Alright, I admit, I get up early. It's early and I'm reading about 'protests' for Saturday. Why don't they invite the president elect to speak to the crowd and they might be surprised at how gracious he would be? I can't speak for him. But here it is: can't all of you 'protestors', addicted to the feel-good protest, wait until there is something real? Something real woudl have been drones use escalation 7 or 7 and half years ago. You could hve protested the constant lies from the most mendacius generation. So Mark Ruffalo and Alex Baldwin, you waste your energies. If there are real things, things that are important and that matter that real will save people, and not just be a false-cause for the obvious reasons, you just speak right up. I haven't closed my ear. The world doesn't want tryanny.

So my advice to 'protestors' this week: be celebratory. It's your democracy too. You should be happy for the peaceful transition. You ought to celebrate the difference. Why cna't you just acknowledge that you fear irrelevence due to the effectatious and headstrong nature of the coming storm of a man, who will be president, on Friday, at noon, with the hail of trumpets, and many marching bands of young dreamers. They dream for celebratory purpose, something that we all need. We crave that 'gathering together'. the communial urge becomes a kind of . . . junk . . . like an opiate. You need to be in the scrum. You have to have that feeling of being together, of fitting in, of being at the dam as it's breaking and holding back all the water. No, no nooooo ! We worked all our lives for the purpose of the Federal preserve, that festerbog off in the foggy lowlands and one populist millionaire's smile comes rampaging through our fallow wastelands of false-decorum and brings the insult-commic put-down sensibilities, who loves ya, babe. Hollywood has always been a tough crowd. The crowd is mean tonight. There is a sizzle. You can feel it. You can cut it with a knife . . . But that's just a bit. and I haven't put in proper quotations, as I riff off this idea of . . . the hollywood roast, the ghost of Dean (dean who? Really? dean who? you are NOT from Jersey).

There is a joyousness as truculence rampages it's niceness across the landscape. There is a joyousness, and a sense of romp, like the car is all gassed up and destination party city. We've got a dam breaching party to throw. Clear out all ye in the lower muddies. Wave is comeing down through the Valley. Get ye out and off to higher ground. The marshes will be swelling. Scum guppies may come pouring out. Pooring forth? First time? Very First time? Back at the beginning.

It is far fetched to imagine that any administration could actually clear out all the corruptoin in this land. In politics, in government, and in governance of instittuions, there are always those who do not concern so much with the mission of the organizatino, but instead with the mission as so instructed by fussy operators 'higher up.' Hence a highway administration suddenly decides that 'global alarmism' and environmental cause must be the most important thing in their agenda which basically says: this agency will do whatever the suggestors say to do. Who are these suggestors? More conjecture? Who is it that names out policy? Who plays the flute that Mark Ruffalo dances to?

Ya, it's wonderful, being in the scrum of righteousness. But in some sense that is always faux. If you say it is that, you'll be scoffed at by many. But those who say they do know well enough to be part of a 'cause' that will go and insurrect for that cause, and do bullshiitt things to innocent people as if that is 'free speech', but it's riotous.

Ya, gathering together. It's kind of nice. And it's like a kind of opium. So they need some reason. And their choice for a reason? They hate our next president? Get over youselves, if you plan to insurrect. The world is so over it, all that cause farming. If it hadn't been Trump it would have been some one else. The world is fed up with some few who delude to be of rulership-class and special citizen diplomats feathering up their high-mountain nests and trying to hide out from the coming troubles which they seem to want to brew up stronger so as to highten their portfolios. Come down from those lofty heights, come in from the cold. Gather together to celebrate our commonness, our even purpose, our steady causes, our overwhelming joy in others, in being with others. Of huddling close in seemingly common purpose. But don't make that purpose hatred or subversion of election results. Don't make that purpose false-cause liberal buzz-topics generated from the operant wastelands of agendad agencies fully funded efforts. Get over the hatred and the scare tactics and the war against democracy and celebrate. Celebrate.

Mr. King wasn't just a hero becase of what he did for civil rights. He also was a martyr for Democracy. Sad to say. We need no more of that ever.

It's said, and it ought to be obvious, if you want to dance you have to pay the band. Civil rights says that anyone at all ought to be allowed into that club. The real world knows better and some clubs really aren't for some of a different crowd. We know this. We shouldn't make a big deal about it. If you aren't a hip-hop guy you might not want to be at the hip-hop club. You're not a friend of . . . the cause, what are you doing at the cause bar the night that they got their jig band and their Patriot songs? If you don't go out with that kind of girl then why buy her a drink when you know what she's here for? If you are going to look at teh very expensive ring you better at lesat be ready to buy it when the jeweler , loving you in the moment, gives you an incredible deal so you can do it up right tonight when you propose . . . the world is actually much nicer than (what many call) good fiction conveys. Gathering together is holy effort at a better future. We can't all agree what that is, can we? But we can agree what it is not: rioting and insureection. You have so much in common with everyone that why would you want to start a fight with strangers over the outcome of an election months later?

So on Friday, the old king will be thrown from the wall, like Humpty Dumpty (and only as a methaphor and without any harm or bad to the real people involved). And then we will loose an imperious pajama-king and gain a new President in the traditoins of George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin (who was not a president, but better than one), and, of course, the oft contriversal Andrew Jackson.

The purpose of democracy is not the constant cedeing of the obligations of elected officials to heedless apointed 'czars-for-life' outside of the approval process of legislation, and common rules of procurement and oversight of budgets and constant audit. We need law and order to assure that our society isnt' looted. The new president will be a return to normal times when the oversight wasn't ignored when it served the purposes of imperious operatives of governance: those who effect the way of the world, but for private purpose and outside of democracy. That's not always a bad thing, it's what we all do all the time. When coorindated by organizational bullies, this kind of behvavior results in . . . organizational failure at the highest levels. VEry many enthralled by the lie, having swallowed the snake of the lie, and needing to be cured of it but afraid of the physician. The physician doesn't care if you like him as he cures you of your delusions. If you are a threat to his causes then you had best understand that he doesn't cotton to fools. And if you pretend to offense by his truculence, you probably learned something from him but are too proud to admit it. Yes, it's pride, in some sense, that keeps them at it even when there isnt anything for htem to protest. So, ya, Pride and a lust for that cum-bay-ya gathering together. AS if common delusion is a necessary part of that.

I expect some controlled demolition, the preferred kind, in te coming weeks as various aspects of the dykeworks of the festerbog are (methaphorically dynomited) to drain the swamp in Washington. And no offense to real dykes, I misspelled it and it's just too humourous to change. I don't think that Trump is the kind ot needlessly and with impunity just go blowing up important parts of infrastrucute (i'm talking in allegories, no real bombs are used). So whatever programs really work, whoever is actually doing good work for the people, and not just for some small part, those people should be supported, even if they are jingo-saying leftist ideolouges. Even if they are true believer marxists, and dedicated, if they do well for the pepole, and not jsut some small crowd, they they should keep doing that. But if it's the cause of constant agitation and false-cause agenda mongering, they ought to cease with all of that.

It's going to be a lot happening really quickly. After Friday we really need to pay attention to the news. And Mark, Alec, Michael Moore: if bad shit starts happening and your worst fears are realized and . . . dunt dunt dunn don't you think that everyone will still be on the page of Justice and Liberty? The nonsequotor of the climate alarmists cause: that monolithic governance, and heedless regulatory over reaching, of a single minded political hitjob organization: you either agree with everything that they say or they throw you out in the cold. It's a recipe for one-world tyranny of some few. And why you buy into it, like it's a holy cause? It's because it's a cult and you are hypnotized.

I keep adding things. I probably should edit this stuff better. But I was trained as a typist: rule one don't break the flow by back spacing to correct while negotiating a first draft. Consider pretty much everything here like a draft.

Check out some karts, built with Blender and Open Source scripts at Game Sculpture. The page is one of my demonstration pages, with inserted images in that, and haven't taken too much time with it and it needs some tweaking.

Check it out!

Poem Shards

just who reads, who writes these poems?
off a mountain road the poet roams
but only in a poem.

Realizing that the empty
is empty
and not needing anything there.

just who shows up and for what?
I'm lonely or am alone or what does it matter?
driving off towards the nothing
walking along the nowhere path
up high
sure, it's a pretty view
but seen it, done it, jaded, back to the air port
he flew
his fantasy of happy vacation was through.

The deep snow. She doesn't know how deep. She didn't think about it. Depth of snow no one know in rills and hollows where you shouldn't go when the storm is fierce and the night is cold even you shouldn't be so bold. poem is from 2012 short story titled Blizzard Baby The morning light is hued in cold awareness. Coders Edge

served to you by:

Fedora 40

After 40 different versions what can one say about it anymore? It's installed in all my systems, a day earlier. There are a few minor issues, but no show stoppers.

I did some stuff with lvm to resize a root area. That took a very long time. It's on a machine that maybe just should be retired . . .

Fedora Core 38 beta

Ya, I decided to load Fedora Core 38 Beta about a month ago, and this machine kept shutting down . . . I think I finally fixed it. Tomorrow is the big release day for the Fedora Core 38. My production workstation is still running FC37. I don't know if I'll jump right on it right away. . .

my server is still resetting, or maybe I have it fixed. I decided to just remove plasma-desktop, as I don't use it. The journals were giving all kinds of errors with that, and I think that might have been the issue, conflicting with the gdm that I do use. Worst case I'd just go to runlevel 3 but, as I said in another column, I don't really even know if anyone views these pages anyway.

My production box would upgrade but the dnf says it would downgrade grum and associated tools, and that's never a good thing to do. I'm just not going to do it! anyway I'll check tomorrow when the offical release is and probably do it then. If I'm in the mood.

So now I've run every version of Fedora serving this website! that's a long time.

here is from a year ago:

Fedora Core 36 beta

It took some time to figure out how to defeat the new screensaver built in, but I was able to. It's the biggest downside to the new Gnome.

I set the keybindings to something I don't use, and then put in a custom keybinding to use the old tool.

There are other minor things that annoy too, like the restoration of a deleted file that I always have to delete again on every FC core upgrade. The file is name camera-shutte.oga. It's in /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo

At the precipice of coding.

a mountain trail often has a place with a great view and a perilous fall if you wonder just a bit too far to one side of the trail. It's called a precipice. It's not a scary place. It's a safe place that one passes through.

OK, so I've done an update to FC34.

the biggest issue was . . . . drum roll . . .a lock up of gnome.

and if i clicked on the activities button I would need to reload (log out log back in).

I was able to run stuff without that, and thus determined a list of files that might need to be removed. I did as full reinstall of gnome as such:

dnf reinstall gnome

then I did a

dnf list installed |grep fc33

which gave me a list of files to consider uninstalling.

from that I got the following:

first odd issue:

sudo was not at first working! I had to install it! I kept the configuration file so I have my preferences still set up.

dnf install sudo dnf reinstall gnome-* dnf reinstall kde* dnf reinstall NetworkManager* dnf remove gnome-screensaver dnf remove gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-20.04.0-2.fc33.noarch dnf remove xorg-x11-xkb-extras-7.7-33.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove compat-openssl10-1:1.0.2o-11.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove mozjs60-60.9.0-7.fc33.x86_64

there are still some fc33 packages, (I also looked for fc32 packages, anything older that was gnome)

sudo dnf list installed |grep fc33
biber.noarch 2.14-4.fc33 @fedora
gamin.x86_64 0.1.10-37.fc33 @fedora
libgta.x86_64 1.0.9-5.fc33 @fedora

if removing a package also removed large numbers of other packages, I left it. For each of the few that I did remove, I always would make sure by reading what would happen before agreeing to the transaction.

now the gnome-shell is working and it doesn't lock up. So which of the packages that I removed made the difference? I am not sure.

and so after just a few short hours of install, I've got my system working in away that seems normal.

the new gnome shell moves the icons to the bottom of the screen.

I find gnome-shell to be annoyingly poppy at times. I tend to do things rapidly, and all the popping can be nauseating.

It is helpful to learn how to use dnf. I've found that the reverse history stuff works as long as you haven't made too many changes. It's a dicey, though, to try and go back to an older revision but I did it ONCE. Next time it didn't work out so well. AT that point it was installing dnf and yum from rpms.

and I had success. It's the kind of thing that when you know how to do it . . .

but there was one other trick that I needed and it was a scary way to reset a password and I did discover how to do it. I'm not sharing that one (barely remember) it's like these things exist in a nether, and it's best to . . . let the knowledge fade unless you need it. It's too scary to dwell in that space.

anyway, gnome shell is working. It's not flighty and hanging up. And all it took was to remove the old packages of gnome that might conflict with it. And now I can continue with my review.
