how do I even know if anyone even sees these pages? I suppose that's why I stopped updating them

And did he ever even get to that part about 'helmet safety' and that the guy in the photo wasn't wearing one?

Oh, no, yet another topic for the echo factory to pretend that people care about and repeat over and over.

 this is a lot more
             fun
         than wading
         in through the chan spam.

if you don't have proper fonts installed you won't see what this picture shows: the output of the echo command with unicode symbols as input. If you are blind basically the unicode are symbols that you could feel as shapes. If you have a 'font box', which would be like that divice with all the pins in it that you can place your hand inside, and the shape of your hand will appear on the surface. If such a thing locked, it would then let a blind person feel it and they would feel the shape. such a device that does that for font shapes would greatly aid the blind. It would be a 'kind of' high resolution new-braille. Call it a 'sean-box' font reader.

The Message Column

Roseanne

Is Wicked Awesome. And that means she is good and holy. Even when manic.

I remember having to deal with the square ideas of those who had this concept of how people ought to behave, and never once considering what they were doing to all of those around them who might have a walk through the wild lands, a hike into the wilderness or the forest, some kind of alternative take on what is the real story. And Roseanne was one of theose people who seemed to always click on that, she really hit the bullseye every f-in time she . . . well or she knew what to not publish.

So she had a wild moment. It was just Roseanne being Roseanne. It's just the network being the network. We already know who the future will adore, becuase we already do, those of us who can. And who that can not adore Roseanne, as horrid and wicked (not, but wicked-awesome in Maine talk), like you can't adore her even when she is manic because she comes from a center of love, no matter how far away from it she seems to wonder in that special inner place of being Roseanne, stuck between floors (no. That's being JM) . . . in the awesome world of Roseanne . . .

The thing about Roseanne is that she is a reciever of the real. She can do the total humor and snark precise word bomb dead-on presentation of the humorous facts, word bombs I like to call them. Them they are like wicked-awesome, like she is (like everyone who is . . . ) she is more wicked awesome.

Ok, she's just the same wicked awesome as weveryone. So ya, she's a real person and she falls down occasionally and she makes mistakes. I hope they bring tback the show with her on it. Everyone should understand that the character of Kira was the most human one of all in Planet of the Apes 1968, so get over it. It was the jacket, that jacket. Kim Hunter was a beautiful woman, and so was even in the make up of being Kira (not between floors). She reprised that role twice and was much adored in it.

Why doesn't anyone get that? Oh, we're supposed to know the mindfields of other people's misconceptions about old movies.

If you delude her to be a racist, or think that is where she got that, then I suggest you ought to look into your own ideas on the matter. The movie was more about failed equalitarian revolution than it was about race relationships, but it did also have that as part of the many allegories of the films. And the idea of relgious totalitarianism, in the Beneath The Planet of the Apes. And then in Escape from the Planet of the Apes I think that Kira was the hero (heroine?). And as well she shared an onstage kiss with Chuck Heston so . . . ya, she was kind of awesome and maybe, maybe what the real story is that VJ is actually nothing like Kira of the film and saying that . . . insults the film? But why go there. In fact I think that Roseanne was actually giving it up for Vallerie. If she sees Vallerie as being like the character, Kira, as played by Kim Hunter, then she is saying that she is heroic and a rather worthy person. So . . . where they got racist ideas about people thinking that apes are akin to humans . . . when it was more about stratification of society as the gorillas were the militants, the chimps were the brainacs, the orangatangs were the pleblian ruler class, and the humans were like the chattle. So it was more about how some prey on others, and it wasn't all about race, but more about failed revolution, and idealism turned into totalitarianism, rather the story of who some see the so-called rulling class . . . in some strange view, a science fiction concotion.

Anyway, Roseanne is awesome. The Planet of the Apes (1968) was a deep and complex tapestry of various distopian societies, and as well, being compared to Kira, from that movie, ought to be seen as a complement, but alas, it was not. So it is that peole put their ideas about racism onto others. Those blind to it were raised to know that we are all equal, and human. No one like Roseanne ever even gets that idea, we simply didn't have that in our lexicon. She is not, never has been, as far as I can tell. In fact she's a great big includer. So . . . ya, well, ya know. Some people are smug in their banning and their boycotts, and getting people fired. I say that if there is work for the crew, with some funny stories, or just good-old slapstick, and they've got the audience, how is it that a corporate board could fire a whole crew of union workers (because they are) just because one person has and addled and manic moment? They kind of already knew this about her when they took on the crew again. so she can't be herself, and the whole team is fired and that's not a violation of their rights? It seems to me that if peole want to watch it, that it ought to be produced and the corporation oughtent to be able to fire all of them because of one poor one-liner that got let loose. I'm sure they've all thought some things and said things worse, and they allknow that rosey isn't a bigot so I call bullshit on that idea.

You can go to ABC.com and ask them nicely to put the show back in the lineup. It's easy. Give a real email. It's not just a few jobs at stack. ABC and Disney need to do the right thing and put the show back on the air with her on it.

Judicial Denotice

Judicial Denotice I've heard has had legitimate use, and was only used in times of military emergency previously, so it's not as bad as I raved about a week ago here.

Tommy Robinson is still in jail, as far as I know. I hope that he is soon released. And it seems that widely in Britian the people are on board with a review of process. In fact some of the denotice was rescinded and a collective sigh of relief, but not all of it.

Britian is not the new South Africa. I said that in anger last week and how silly of me.

We live in trouble times but not so troubled that we need to be reactionary. We don't.

AJ rips BM to shreds in a manic rant

I was listening to AJ (ya, from Austin) and he was raving about Bill Maher. Ya, know, Bill is kind of a weenie but he's one of the better ones, eh? But I think that Bill is under some kind of delusin that AJ is somehow a leader of something, an organization? that simply doesn't exist. And AJ was trying to say that but he goes off into his channeling of the imagined rage, he seems to be the vent out of which the magma comes: it's like hiring mourners at a funeral. But it's not a funeral, no one died. But here is what it is what AJ does (I'm just going with it) he is channeling the rages that other people might have and showing you how someone as unxious and seemingly phony as Bill Maher can seem to be (I think Bill is probably genuine if you get him person-to-person) and AJ is all enraged by Maher repeating various slanders concerning our loved-one (the POTUS) who we all love like we love Roseanne and everyone and . . . well you get it? If you don't get the 'love' thing, that we can't help you. Go and learn that and then join the political process. The term could be 'fall down on the road to Damascus'. So anyway, Bill, Mr. Maher? Can you please be fun with the truth? The funny thing if it were true about that dossier, then it would kind of maybe be funny what you said. But it's not, it's all fake. So what you say just reapeat the lie. But . . . here is where I and Aj maybe get it wroing; maybe Bill is given a tainted feed, or . . . heaven forbid we are . . . or . . .

So for me, the rule, keep loving. Keep loving and don't worry what you delude you think they know. But we are 'sure' that it's all fake. And he's sure that it's all real. And how do we even know what news feeds he reads, who is telling him what is real. So if he does believe that the fake dossier is correct, then you'd say Bill, Bill, come on, Bill. It' was a fabriation.

But then he'll say 'the idea that it is a fabrication is also a fabrication' and we will say 'nugghht uhh'. And then we can all go and have a meal at a pub and talk war stories. "I remember whne I saw the f-91 fly from Calabasas to DC in less than . . . minutes"

So, ya, they're both doing their jobs, AJ, and Bill. So Bill, you read the cards? Or do you also write the cards? If you do write the cards can you add in some sauce to them? Maybe links to your sources? The thing is, if you are slandering a guy, even in jest, isn't that rather unfair? So you read the cards and it's kind of funny in a way if someone doesn't know that it's fake (the dossier), so, you should know better? That's what AJ was raving about. But here is what it is: AJ really seemed angry. And he was saying something that were a very condeming on Bill. Now I know that Bill is kind-of a weenie (that's a kind-of technical term. if you don't know what it means, or if you ask for explanations about it, then you are perhaps, youself, that lol, no shit) in any case whatever about both of them, I think that AJ needs to step back and realize that Maher a host of a talk show and isn't writing all of his material. And Bill, when you say things, from the cue cards, that you know are not factual, you ought to point that out. I think that Aj was angry because Bill doesn't do that and we all know that Bill must know that the Dossier has been proven false, now where is my sauce? I guess I look to the Congressional reports and all of that from the committees, and Bill would probably answer 'but they are all republicans'.

And I'd have to give that to him. So . . . AJ needs to tame it better. Bill is a spokesman for the Democrats, in some sense, and most of them are fine people.

We can't live in the clouds. People need to come down. Take them selves less seriously.

I think that Maher can be a smarmy condesending weenie at times, but I don't think, in the end of it all, that he wishes ill upon anyone. He's thinking that what you are, that one who wishes ill, so you both are wrong about each other and if you ever needed to work together you'd probably do fine. In fact, yo uare both playing off each other now, so God Bless him, AJ. Do good for your enemies, wish them well, do them good. So maybe he'll never see it, he'll always see the opaque mask that veils your light. He is blind to your brand of shock-jock rage. He does not comprehend your subtle and sublime insights. Nor do you he. So tame the rage. You're on the same team though you might not think so. He just doesn't know it yet.

Or I'm wrong and Im just concern-fragging, which is highly likely.

So much news lately I don't keep up here with it. I tried to write meaningful things about roseanne, but I sound like a fan boy. I've always loved her.

Yes, but I didn't always follow her. She said something recently about love in comedy which seemed so real: keep the love in it. Put the love in it. It was advise to anohter comic. one manic moment and she looses her show? What do they not understand about manic genius? And she's so good at cutting through the panderous bullshit and dealing in the real, but with love.

Fix your self and the world gets fixed around you

as an example . . . I have tried to do some introspective things as I come into awareness of my own flaws, and recognize the way I act and correct my self and make a better narrative for myself and for others.

you raise me up

Somethings never change
nothing need stay the same
ah, but on a website
the constant change
 is kind-of the point . . .

change without continuity and tradition is often very hard to manage for those thrust into it. And thus the frame of things gives a place for the change to happen. If you violate that idea then you are coming up with something completely different and maybe no one will want to see your new idea, or use your great, new venue, because it's too far out, and very far away from what they currently care about. It's a nether or a meta and it's merely for a lark? Or does it become the next big thing? As fun as graphics are (CGI) and animation, and making a world to fly around in (like minetest, which is easy when you learn how) ultimately such a meta is a hollow place. It's a distraction during the season of gaming. It allows one to brush up on geometry and math, and architectural design, it gives people training in computer languages, it allows someone to make some graphical ideas, and pass a few hours of time every few days or so . . .

To live within such a realm really isn't possible.

Poem Shards

just who reads, who writes these poems?
off a mountain road the poet roams
but only in a poem.

Realizing that the empty
is empty
and not needing anything there.

just who shows up and for what?
I'm lonely or am alone or what does it matter?
driving off towards the nothing
walking along the nowhere path
up high
sure, it's a pretty view
but seen it, done it, jaded, back to the air port
he flew
his fantasy of happy vacation was through.

The deep snow.

The deep snow. She doesn't know how deep. She didn't think about it. Depth of snow no one know in rills and hollows where you shouldn't go when the storm is fierce and the night is cold even you shouldn't be so bold. poem is from 2012 short story titled Blizzard Baby The morning light is hued in cold awareness. Warming in the sun the bunny explores the snow covered lawn. The tracks melt by mid morning. Bunny doesn't know what the song means, anyway. This giant bubble that we call awareness? Coders Edge

served to you by:

Fedora 40

After 40 different versions what can one say about it anymore? It's installed in all my systems, a day earlier. There are a few minor issues, but no show stoppers.

I did some stuff with lvm to resize a root area. That took a very long time. It's on a machine that maybe just should be retired . . .

Fedora Core 38 beta

Ya, I decided to load Fedora Core 38 Beta about a month ago, and this machine kept shutting down . . . I think I finally fixed it. Tomorrow is the big release day for the Fedora Core 38. My production workstation is still running FC37. I don't know if I'll jump right on it right away. . .

my server is still resetting, or maybe I have it fixed. I decided to just remove plasma-desktop, as I don't use it. The journals were giving all kinds of errors with that, and I think that might have been the issue, conflicting with the gdm that I do use. Worst case I'd just go to runlevel 3 but, as I said in another column, I don't really even know if anyone views these pages anyway.

My production box would upgrade but the dnf says it would downgrade grum and associated tools, and that's never a good thing to do. I'm just not going to do it! anyway I'll check tomorrow when the offical release is and probably do it then. If I'm in the mood.

So now I've run every version of Fedora serving this website! that's a long time.

here is from a year ago:

Fedora Core 36 beta

It took some time to figure out how to defeat the new screensaver built in, but I was able to. It's the biggest downside to the new Gnome.

I set the keybindings to something I don't use, and then put in a custom keybinding to use the old tool.

There are other minor things that annoy too, like the restoration of a deleted file that I always have to delete again on every FC core upgrade. The file is name camera-shutte.oga. It's in /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo

At the precipice of coding.

a mountain trail often has a place with a great view and a perilous fall if you wonder just a bit too far to one side of the trail. It's called a precipice. It's not a scary place. It's a safe place that one passes through.

OK, so I've done an update to FC34.

the biggest issue was . . . . drum roll . . .a lock up of gnome.

and if i clicked on the activities button I would need to reload (log out log back in).

I was able to run stuff without that, and thus determined a list of files that might need to be removed. I did as full reinstall of gnome as such:

dnf reinstall gnome

then I did a

dnf list installed |grep fc33

which gave me a list of files to consider uninstalling.

from that I got the following:

first odd issue:

sudo was not at first working! I had to install it! I kept the configuration file so I have my preferences still set up.

dnf install sudo dnf reinstall gnome-* dnf reinstall kde* dnf reinstall NetworkManager* dnf remove gnome-screensaver dnf remove gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-20.04.0-2.fc33.noarch dnf remove xorg-x11-xkb-extras-7.7-33.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove compat-openssl10-1:1.0.2o-11.fc33.x86_64 dnf remove mozjs60-60.9.0-7.fc33.x86_64

there are still some fc33 packages, (I also looked for fc32 packages, anything older that was gnome)

sudo dnf list installed |grep fc33
biber.noarch 2.14-4.fc33 @fedora
gamin.x86_64 0.1.10-37.fc33 @fedora
libgta.x86_64 1.0.9-5.fc33 @fedora

if removing a package also removed large numbers of other packages, I left it. For each of the few that I did remove, I always would make sure by reading what would happen before agreeing to the transaction.

now the gnome-shell is working and it doesn't lock up. So which of the packages that I removed made the difference? I am not sure.

and so after just a few short hours of install, I've got my system working in away that seems normal.

the new gnome shell moves the icons to the bottom of the screen.

I find gnome-shell to be annoyingly poppy at times. I tend to do things rapidly, and all the popping can be nauseating.

It is helpful to learn how to use dnf. I've found that the reverse history stuff works as long as you haven't made too many changes. It's a dicey, though, to try and go back to an older revision but I did it ONCE. Next time it didn't work out so well. AT that point it was installing dnf and yum from rpms.

and I had success. It's the kind of thing that when you know how to do it . . .

but there was one other trick that I needed and it was a scary way to reset a password and I did discover how to do it. I'm not sharing that one (barely remember) it's like these things exist in a nether, and it's best to . . . let the knowledge fade unless you need it. It's too scary to dwell in that space.

anyway, gnome shell is working. It's not flighty and hanging up. And all it took was to remove the old packages of gnome that might conflict with it. And now I can continue with my review.
