if you don't have proper fonts installed you won't see what this picture shows: the output of the echo command with unicode symbols as input. If you are blind basically the unicode are symbols that you could feel as shapes. If you have a 'font box', which would be like that divice with all the pins in it that you can place your hand inside, and the shape of your hand will appear on the surface. If such a thing locked, it would then let a blind person feel it and they would feel the shape. such a device that does that for font shapes would greatly aid the blind. It would be a 'kind of' high resolution new-braille. Call it a 'sean-box' font reader.

The Message Column

Autumn 2017

Big Winds blowing

not just the huricanes.

The statues represent the children
lead to fight for a failing cause

Violence in the name of politics
is political failure

last week on Blathertatious Comentaries of the abutting forests . . .

. . . .

Know-it-all-will-tell ya goes on about how in a healthy forest the low parts are always
boggy and swampish in the wet season . . .

What is the purpose of finding?
everyone ought to have an answer to this when they are looking.
looking?
looking for an answer?

looking for an answer?
what is the purpose of your answer?
looking? just to find?

if you don't know what you are looking for . . .
then how do you know it when you find it?

Obvously people know. Such confusion
is merely a polemic.

It's a bit. Some people fall into it.
They get confused. They follow a 'cause'.
Later on, those who promote such a cause dump them
for rich foreigners who they bring in with great dreams
of happy future and call you a racist for noticing.

When there is enough for everyone
why do some people still try to take it all for themselves?

Poem Shards

Eulogy
I met him in the fog
  of war
 after he was already dead
 his visage in videos speaking
         dread
 and how the public is
     mislead.

If only I could have known
       you before
you gave up the ghost to
           haunt the crossing ferry
  off to places unknown, an
      undiscovered . . .
     virtue.
  A new country!
A new type of people who
respect the things that work that
       ferry churning
through the fogs and mists and
               dank smelling out-gassings
of these many foul rethorics spewed
         plausible
     no one knows
  who is sure?

   Which shore
     does your ferry
  pull up to
to let out the ghost, so
   the story goes, the one
 that gets told . . . better
    be one that people can
hear when their kids are there
   outside the house
at the top of the stair.

 She
can't hear that story if he
is but a ghost now she
     knew him he was
        her friend and
 told her how he had
       been
 destroyed, remorsed,
  fallowed, wasted, lost
abandoned on the battlefield of soul
blow up your fallacies, this war
needs to be taken way down inside those
              dark-thought places where
      hate channels freely destroy
the hate by sending it off to unthought
                rhyme
  unspoken
            words unkind
      unthought hate.

We try not to think of it, what
the plausible story can be he's
off on that Platsburgh ferry a shroud
        of fog the mists
         and fowl outgassings must
some how be endured one last time
to say good bye, come back to me
come back to me you friend now gone and lost
  never known all hopes
   of how to write this story . . . his story . . . if he had asked me . . .
   I'd start the book:
"He faked his death to escape . . ."

from Unipoems
 She asked
 " If you get across
  can you take this
       to the King of Nowhere
 and tell him,
   plead to him
  to think of her
and the way that she needs him?
       but he won't come home
so she goes out looking for him
went down to The Flatiron Building
         asking anyone
    wrote a card
        mailed it home.

  I imagine her
       collapsed on a bench
        people shuffle through
     she feels the lonely loss
          why won't he come home?
     I imagine her.
 She wrote it like that
      on her card.

But it was all for sympathy,
just an expression of her drama
and she felt lost because of it
and didn't know how to proceed
the tricks didn't work with him
      he'd gotten willful,
run off with a different girl
   who doesn't go to church.

     Hear the steam whistle
of an approaching ferry turning to make a smooth connect.
      Moving back
from the railing and the ropes
she notes the impatience of the people at the dock
and how the other women really like to talk.
  the crowd rushes forward
  have your nickel ready
        she gets swept along
now she is way out there
       in the ferry
 out past the jetty.

who da thought?

thought is sequential the end of it is never flood on, river of wise neglect let the bough break let the wind blow removed the baby from that cradle long ago and took him somewhere safe. Thought is over rated when it's thought for being mean to be mean being mean what you mean when you are mean when you 'mean what you say'. Memory is overrated there is joy in the person even when they don't know who you are anymore they still love you they usually don't forget that they love you usually. It was cold that day he'd driven all the way there and plodded through the snow to face the sorrow of his loved-one who didn't remember him but thought him to be someone else as thwarted. Memory is overrated when it's hard hurt of past tragedy as if it happened yesterday from the long ago. Bill Perilli, writer of all of the things on this blog. 🌜🌜🌜🌝🌛🌛🌛

Coders Edge

Linux tells you everything

Linux tells you everything you need to know.

Yes, it's not fun to be an expert in boot loading grub2. As far as that goes, there are so many issues, many of which are so important to get right. So if there are 'issues' with a system, it's good to ascertain how to mitigate them in the most optimized way possible, and for the purposes of education. I become obcessed and it's a bad way to loose sleep, get squirilly. What if I loose everything. . . how will I survive . . such a great loss. And you get over it. You already have a process in place? Every so often I have to dive in to the deep water of Linux journalctl and parse through all of the information glenned from the copius messaging in there.

It was actually kind of nice to be off line for a while. I had to do a lot to get things right, but I've been planning new things anyway. It just makes much more solid what I've been needing to make more firm, the purpose of it? What new direction? The stuff that I should cut off because it' doesn't do anything for any body. You can't make pages that dance around if you want to present text because they have too much bandwidth, and people don't like complete nonsequitor. Instead they seem to want to focus on one small part. They want a 'tweet' not a complex content entity with feeds from 6 columns, each of which can be set to be at any of a very long list of possible pages. So if I had a 100 for each of the 6 columns (maybe just five), and each could be on any one, that would 100^5 (because their are 5) possible configurations for the home page of mine. Each of these is possible. I used to say 'spawn of 10,000 websites' as a byline, very many years ago. My architecture allows a single page to have a multiplicity of faces. It only takes someone with a lot more time and energy, of some future generation, perhaps, to try and figure out the use of such a system. In my case to present content. So it's possible to have a 'snap shot' of a particular time of the web content of that day. It's a feature not yet implemented.

After too much time doing it system administration gets boring. Maybe it's time to drive off into the rising sun and end up at the beach some place way-south of here. I could be in Florida in 20 hours if I leave right now that is tomorrow afternoon. I'm not that crazy. or am I. What did I loose when I lost the old root? Some configuration files, some tuxkart files (which can mostly be reproduced) and all of the minetest worlds. I still have very many pictures of those worlds, and they could, as well, be reproduced. But they did represent a particular time of my life when I was recovering from a leg injury and sitting down and dwelling within the minetest world did give me some time to heal. You can only do that kind of thing for so long. I used to think of it as 'the season of video games' it usually started sometime in october. Now I use blender, instead. And I find that I can craft some fairly interesting scenes. I'm not that proficient at it yet. I've still got a lot to learn. The technology is still fairly nacent. The peopel involved with 'virtual worlds' are particularly obcessed. What I found fascinating, and adictive, with minetest wasn't 'playing' the game, but building the world. I discovered that I could load some private person's 'world builder' mods, and that let me go nuts with building all kinds of detailed landscapes and buildings. I crafted a lot using very simple commands such as 'tile', which lets you select a part and then reproduce it in 3-D array form. Using this I made giant structures, and very much enjoyed my self for very many hours. But as with anything like that eventually it's tiring. i got my legs back and was able to do much more interesting things like planting vines outside, and doing various physical things beyond just mouse jockeying. Fun stuff, mine test! The kids love the commercial version which is the obvious and ubiquitous at the toy store. As well there are now toy cars and play sets.

Stacking is an important thing to learn how to do. In Blender one can do a kind of stacking by creating arrays of nodes as an object and then using 'dupliverts'. It's a very interesting technique. Quickliy, however, utilizing such methods, one can hit the wall of too much is just too much. Some call that a 'stack overrun'.

Using 'dupliverts' is a type of multiplication. Profiling the number of nodes and surfaces in a blender model is a very important and critical part of making useful things for use in virtual worlds or three dimensional modelings, and video games.
