Linux tells you everything you need to know.

It was as simple as swaping memory slots and resetting the memory firmly into their sockets. Why didn't I put that on the list of things to do. Run the program memtester first, and if there are problems, install and run the memtest86+ boot from a grub prompt (you will need to install it) and see if there are issues. If issues, then try resetting the memory and seeing if that fixes it.

Lessons learned, and I learned a lot of them.
